Riding BART in the Bay Area?
 

They don't sell day passes? We'll have 6-7 hours before Braves-A's game so thought we'd ride into SFO and look around.What is a good stop to get off and explore?

Depends what you want to see on your explorations. Get off at Embarcadero to take a historic streetcar to Fisherman's Wharf. Get off at Union Square to look at all the shops and grab a bite to eat. Past the Civic Center station, you get into residental neighborhoods--Mission, Glen Park, etc. Unless this is a weekday, there will not be much at Montgomery Street Station (Financial District) which is between Embarcadero and Union Sqaure.

You can get MUNI day passes, valid on the buses, streetcars, trolleys. I'd recommend getting off at Embarcadero for a bit of exploring, then take the California trolley to Union Square (Powell) if you want to walk around there a bit, otherwise, take the Powell trolley to the end and go west or east or both. You could head via bus to Chinatown, then over to Coit Tower for the murals and views from the top, then walk down those steps, and catch a or streetcar back to Embarcadero.

DJK...I would like to go back to Coit Tower,since I was last there in 1983!...I think Union SQ will be my choice for postcard/t-shirt shopping!

Randy: If you haven't walked down the steps near Coit Tower, be SURE to follow the signs (or ask one of the guards) and do that - spectacular experience!

Actually, you may find better tees and post-cards at the Cannery or anywhere along the waterfront at the end of the Powell/Hyde cable car line. Though, I finally found some really "nice" tees at the airport.

No, BART doesn't sell day or monthly passes. They only have discount for children and seniors, selling these tickets at special vendors, not at each station. Using BART you don't have a choice other then pay full price.

Wait, I may be wrong! I heard something about a pass, you must get on and off the same station I believe, and it's called something like "tourist pass" or "sightseeing pass", search their web site if they still have it.

You don't want the Tour the BART stations pass. It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. What it entitles you to do is ride around on BART for 4 hours, get off at different stations, BUT NOT ACTUALLY EXIT any station other than the one you entered the system from.

Basically, it will cost you about $6.00 RT per person to go from the East Bay to downtown SF. There are no discounts for children or seniors.
