Ride like bw Lafayette LA and Beaumont TX?Safe in the dark?

Driving from New Orleans to Lafayette and then Beaumont in one day. Is the drive from Lafayette LA to Beaumont TX safe at night? is it deserted or populated? Travelling with kids. Thanks for advice.

Huh? What do you think goes on there? It's as safe as anywhere. Just a bunch of Cajuns. They won't hurt you though they do eat alligators. You may end up at a party but other than that I think you'll be fine.

What does having kids have to do with this? Nobody is going to jump out and attack you OR your kids. Where ARE you from, anyway?

I would assume you would be traveling on I-10 (the only reasonable thing to do). It's like any other interstate. Lots of little towns, some bigger ones, and lots of exits with gas and food stops.

I have made the trip between NO and Houston umpteen times the past year or so. Easy. A bit boring, but easy.

The stretch from Lafayette to Beaumont will take you about 2 hours, maybe. Worst thing about that stretch is the potential for construction delays between Lake Charles and Beaumont.

I wouldn't eat at Copeland's - a chain not really at all representative of good Cajun cooking. Prejean's is a better choice.

And if you time it right for lunch (before 2pm I think), try Don's Specialty Meats in Scott, LA (just west of Lafayette).

Thanks. I ask because we have driven in places out west where there are no towns and if you broke down you are stuck. No cell phone reception either. I would not want that to happen at night - especially with kids. Thanks for your help and suggestions.
