Richmond or Williamsburg, VA
I'll be travelling to NYC from Savannah and I was hoping to stay over night in one of these two cities. Any recommendations would be helpful. Regards, Tim.

Tim,

Richmond is a city but Williamsburg is a small town. Where to stay depends on your interests but if it were me and I was only there for a night, I'd pick Wmburg.

I suggest you pull out a map. Williamsburg is significantly west and south of Richmond on the peninsula (about 45 minutes; 1 - 1/2 hours to Norfolk). If you are looking at 'making time', Williamsburg, while lovely and close to many other attractions, will be out of your way and you may have to change your driving plans.

I LOVE Williamsburg, but it's not on a direct route of where you're traveling, other than if you're coming up Rt 17. As much as I like the town, I wouldn't drive out of my way just for an "overnight". Maybe for a half day tho! (Alano - pull out YOUR map! Wburg is *EAST* of Richmond! ~50 miles from I-295, and about 50 minutes from Norfolk, with no traffic problems. [and I thought *I* needed another coffee :-) ]

Since no one has answered you question, I will. Stay in Richmond downtown at either The Jefferson, The Omni or The Commonwealth Park Suites. All three are walking distance to the Shokhoe Slip and Bottom which is great dining and shopping!
