They said RI which is Rhode Island! You will be very close to Providence so you could drive there for a few hours to explore the downtown area-possibly lunch in Federal Hill or coffee and dessert at Pastiche. ANother spot would be Providence Place which has shops, many places to eat etc....
Another idea would be to go to the Roger Williams Zoo to see the new baby Polar Bear and The park outside of the Zoo is also nice to explore. I think that going to Newport would be a bit far knowing you had to go back to the airport. Let me know if you need more help!

There isn't much "to do" around the airport, especially if you are carless. The airport is actually in Warwick, RI, not Providence so Providence hotspots are really an option for you. The airport is on Post Rd. Walk out of the aiport and take a left(south). There is a great sports bar down the street called Dave's Bar and Grill. Cheap Eats, relaxed atmosphere, TV's. If you want some good seafood, you can also walk to Legal Seafoods, which is also in the same direction as Dave's. Their prices can be a little high, but you might catch some deals for lunch. Will you be in RI for any longer than that or is it just a layover? Let me know if you need other suggestions. RI has many great options, but not too many are near the airport. Enjoy your stay!
