Resturants in Savannah

Looking for two romantic resturants in Savannah with great wine lists - Elizabeth on 37 and the Sapphire Grill look good from their web sites - any recommendations?

aileen679 Jul 8th, 2006 09:35 AM

Those are both good. Elizabeth's is a little out of the way if you are driving and not sure of where you are going. If you are going by cab, it won't matter.

Another good choice is The Pink House.
If you are staying in the Historic District, you will be in walking distance of both The Pink House and The Sapphire Grill.

We loved Elizabeth's om 37th. It is not walkable from the Historic District, but an easy taxi ride away.

That would be the The Olde Pink House on Abercorn Street...it is really a great restaurant..with good ghosts stories to go along with your meal .

an incredible restaurant in Savannah, with a large upscale winelist and great music is 700 Drayton. There are several options for seating and the atmosphere is incredible. Food is the best by far in Savannah. It has been written up in many travel mags and isn't that old. We go as often as possible!!!!

Add Garibaldi's to the list Outstanding.

What about Lady & Sons?! It is a fabulous restaurant but usually there is a long wait.

miller20621 Jul 17th, 2006 04:57 PM

Lady & Sons is not worth the wait, especially of you want a romantic atmosphere- tables are crowded, the noise level is high and service was a little slow. The night we were there the menu selection only had a handful of choices (8?).

Garibaldi's would be a much better choice!

Thanks to everyone for your great ideas! Elizabeth on 37 will be closed the week we are there. Checking out 700 Drayton and Pink House!

Another vote for Pink House...we enjoyed several anniversary dinners there while we lived in Savannah. It is as romantic as Elizabeths, (site of another, eqully enjoyable, anniversary dinner) with excellent food to boot.

Pink House.
Make reservations.
Arrive early and have a drink in the tavern downstairs first.

Try Bistro Savannah - 912 233 6266, Gottlieb's - 912 234 7447 or George's of Tybee - 912 786 9730.

Another vote for Pink House.

aileen679 Jul 23rd, 2006 04:10 PM

Gottlieb's is closed.

starrsville Jul 23rd, 2006 04:34 PM

You're kidding. That didn't take long. Was really pricey with the other options in town.

starrsville Jul 23rd, 2006 04:55 PM

Yuck. What a reason to close!

According to a Savannah Business News article:

Gottlieb's has had building maintenance issues since opening at 1W. Broughton St. in 2004. They found out they would have to dig up the sewage lines in the basement to fix the problem. It was an undertaking they could not afford, so they decided to shut the doors for good.

"We're going to try and straighten out these issues and build a new one," Michael Gottlieb said.

On our trip, our favorite place for a romantic dinner was definitely The Pink House. We were seated upstairs in front of a fireplace (this was in March). After, we wandered downstairs for drinks and listened to Gail Thurmond on the piano for hours. As we were leaving, the bartender topped off our drinks so we could enjoy them in the moonlight (along with eavesdropping in on a few minutes of a ghost tour walk passing through) on a bench in beautiful Reynolds Square. Then, we strolled "home" to our hotel.

We also enjoyed Bistro Savannah. Food was absolutely magnificent. Very, very loud though, but tables in the room in the back (near the rest rooms) looked much quieter.

We cancelled our reservations at The Sapphire Grill after the menu didn't look all that appealing. We went there for drinks after Bistro Savannah and found that it was even louder there!

Another romantic meal was enjoyed at 17 Hundred 90, where there is also wonderful food and a terrific piano player.

There were way more wonderful dining possibilities in Savannah than we had time to visit over a week long stay!

Pink House, Garibaldi's and Bistro Savannah are all owned by the same company and all have fabulous food.

Pink House is my favorite, especially for a romantic dinner.

Here's a interesting article about the Garibaldi's chef. Their manager used to be the manager at the Pink House too.

Re-reading your original post, I see you are looking for two places, and are thinking about Sapphire Grill as one. The food is good, but gosh, it is so loud it would suck all the romance right out of air! Garibaldi's would be a better choice, IMHO.
