resturantes in Cape Cod Area
We are going to the Cape Cod Area in July.
We would like to know reasonable restaurants in the area that will not break us but have good food. We will be staying in South Yarmouth, but going on daily trips to Hyannis, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, Provincetown. Please let us know the area restaurants that you would recommend. Thanks |
In Provincetown: The Mayflower Restaurant, Clem & Ursies, Napi's. South Yarmouth and Hyannis both have HEARTH & KETTLE restaurants. I'll let someone else suggest dining on the Islands.

We go to the Cape every Thanksgiving and we eat at Cookes (Hyannis, Rt 28) every chance we get. I sneak out when I know my mother in law is going to make sandwiches for lunch, and I come back w/food from Cooke's for everyone. It is very much a low-key family style place, order at the counter, take a number and they deliver food to your table when it is done, or get takeout. Fried clams are really great, and I like their lobster rolls. Simple but good, and inexpensive.
If you go further out on the Cape to the beaches, try the Lobster Trap (I think it is on Hwy 6)for lunch. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's good food and reasonable. Love their lobster rolls. On the Vineyard everyone goes to the Black Dog but I thought it was a tourist trap when we went last year. Bad service and that was in slow season at Thanksgiving. Hopefully you'll get other recommendations to try there. |
Check out the Yankee Traveller website. I think that it is www.newengland.com. They always have good suggestions.
In P'Town, Bubbala's by the Bay is great. |
Clancy's. There's one right in West Yarmouth on Route 28, but the Original in Dennisport has a nicer view/atmosphere, right on Swan River....reasonably priced/BIG portions.

I prefer Seafood Sam's to Cookes. Both are good but I prefer that batter on Seafood Sam's fried clams. Sam's has locations in Sandwich and Yarmouth on Rt 28. Hearth and Kettles are good for breakfast. I have never enjoyed Clancy's. The service was bad on 3 different occassions and the food is mediocre.

I remember the Black Cat in Hyannis. Right by the marina. We loved it.
|
Try Mattakeese Wharf in Barnstable Harbor. Dining right on the water with great sunsets. Call for reservations and ask to be seated on the deck. Not cheap but not that high either.
|
Another really good spot for reasonably priced seafood and also on the water is Tugboats right on Hyannis Harbor. The lobster is usually a good deal and has always been excellent.

The Cookes in Orleans is better than Hyanis 9a hint to all)
In Ptown: Nappi's - good local food Bubbala's - burgers outside The Commons (my favorite) - bistro food Lobster Pot - water view - been ther forever Mayflower - a tad dirty Bayside Betty's - average food fair prices Most places post their menu so shop around |
The best lobster roll - anywhere - Kadees in Orleans, big chunks of lobster just the right amount of mayo, all piled on a grilled sweet portugese roll! Right on the way to Nauset Beach - you can't miss it.
Clancy's is good for seafood but I, too, prefer Seafood Sams. Also try the Kreme n' Kone in ... Harwich on Rte 28. |
One of our favorite restaurants is Ardeo near Dennis - it's near the exit west of Dennis (Exit 8, I believe) off Rt. 6. Great wood-burning stove pizza!

We have been going to the Cape for 2 weeks every summer for about 13 yrs. We stay in S. Yarmouth at Seaside Cottages and do go out to dinner every night. Here is a list for you:
Captain Parkers Pub (W Yarmouth), excellent! Skipper Restaurant (South Shore Drive, S Yarmouth) Black Cat (Hyannis) The Paddock (Hyannis) Clancy's (in Dennis) Ristorante Barolo (Hyannis) Tugboats (Hyannis Marina) Baxters (Hyannis Marina) Don't go to the Lobster Boat-W Yarmouth, tourist trap! Enjoy! |
Just had a terrible experience at the Hearth & Kettle in Hyannis. We have been to the one in Yarmouth many times and like it ... usually good food, good service at a decent price. This was our first time at the Hyannis location and it may have been a fluke but the food was terrible and so was the service. We do like Cooke's and Black Cat.
On Nantucket we had great burgers at Tap Room which is downstairs at the Jared Coffin house. Also some good ice cream at a place near Young's Bike Shop. |
Don't bother with the Red Inn. They are so overrated and quite over priced. There are a lot better choices of good eats in Provincetown. The help is haughty and, poorly managed and indifferent.
I would NOT recommend eating at THE RED INN. |
what's the scoop on Ciro & Sal's?
I understand it has a new owner and Sal opened "Sal's". Any thoughts on which is better w.r.t. ambience/food? Brian |
