Restrictions on car traffic into Manhattan.
I just caught the tail end of the NY news, and it said car traffic into the city will be restricted to vehicles carrying 4 or more passengers only. The only thing is, I missed the part about when this restriction is in effect. does anyone know? Thanks.

the restriction will be if there is a transit strike.
|
Only in the event of a mass transit strike (possibly this coming Monday) and it will be in effect 24 hours day, mon-fri (4 people per vehicle, in or out of the city) and sat-sun (2 people)
|
I heard that the 4 passenger min. was for Mon - Fri, and it was 2 passengers
minimum on Sat and Sun.
Just the idea of trying to get into the city if the God-forbid transit strike happens makes me shudder. NYers, just imagine the hell of the streets, bridges and tunnels with all that EXTRA traffic. Anyone living in the outer boroughs is really going to have a bad time trying to get to Manhattan.
|
The whole thing is demented! Considering that NYC is having such a bad time financially, there is supposed to be a transit strike!
Just at a time when people are coming into the city and bringing tourist dollars. The shows and restaurants will suffer also.
How lame is this?

Why are they thinking of striking?
|
To Just Wondering -- they are threatening to strike over the usual reason: money. They want a 24% pay increase over the next 3 years. And hey, wouldn't we all. From what I understand a lot of MTA workers make a ton of overtime $ on top of what they already earn anyway.
|
Maybe the mayor will be smart, and keep the ban on underutilized vehicles AFTER any strike too. This city of people could get around a lot faster if we had all the asphalt to walk on as cars. PEOPLE, not cars, are what make this a great city. Cars only detract.
