I like www.menupages.com to read restaurant reviews and menus. You can search by factors such as location, cuisine, cost.

The area is packed with restaurants - a lot of good ones within walking distance.
It would help if you told us 1)what your price point is 2) what cuisines you like/dislike Note that if you want to take food out - for a picnic in the park or whatever - you are only a couple of blocks south of Zabar's - an incredible gourmet shop (premade salads and meals to heat, an incredible selection of cheeses, meats, hot and cold premade dishes, wonderful bakery - anything you could want). Esp great selection of lox you won;t find outside NY. |
This is a reliable restaurant at 83rd and Broadway:
http://www.ouestny.com/dinner.html One of our original "farm to table" places on 69th Street off Columbus: http://www.telepan-ny.com/welcome-to-telepan |
thanks again. The telepan looks very interesting.

At 78th and Broadway is the non-fancy famous and great La Caridad, the last good Chinese-Cuban place I believe. These restaurants were created by Chinese who had worked in Cuba, probably in restaurants, and the menu is both Chinese and Cuban. It's a place for lunch and to my mind "real," if that appeals to you.
I like to order picadillo with yellow rice, black beans, and fried plantains/platanos. Or rice with chorizo, other stuff same. Or maybe arroz con pollo. As long as you have black ebeans, yellos rice, and platanos, you will be happy. I think they must also have Cuban sandwiches, if you want to be dainty. Then at 85th and Broadway there's a French Roast, which is a pleasant 24-hour French bistro with a full bar and extremely consistent and reliable food. And really nice for any meal. It's good to keep in mind if you ever think of having a late dinner or drinks or dessert -- or midnight breakfast --like after a show. |
Isabella's on 77th and Columbus WONDERFUL. Just 2 blocks from our hotel. Loved it. Highly recommend it. Casual elegance, more on the quite side, good food, out door dining available. On open table if you are a member.....Def. keeper on our list of good restaurants in NYC
