Restaurants on N. Shore of Oahu
We're staying in Mokuleia on the N. Shore of Oahu, and I am wondering what good restaurants we might go to. (It's in the general area of Waimea) We do not like Jameson's in Kona, and a friend say the one on Oahu is not good, either. We would not mind one splurge dinner while we are there, simmilar to Alan Wong's.
And are there any places with really good Home-cooked style Hawaiian plates? How about more gourmet-style places? |
I had to look Mokuleia up cause I have not heard of it and you are more out towards the point than Waimea. Haleiwa will be your closet town. The Grass Skirt Grill in Haleiwa has really good hawaiian style plate meals and very fresh fish. it is not fancy or a splurge, just really good food.

Haleiwa Eats - Pretty good Thai.
|
Haleiwa Cafe - Great breakfasts, especially the pancakes
Breakers - Casual, but very good Haleiwa Joe's - Very good seafood Jameson's by the Sea - Very good, but pricey Ted's Bakery - Very good plate lunches, salads, and sandwiches: fabulous pies and desserts Spaghettini's - Good New York Style pizza and Italian dishes Aoki's - Very good shave ice (I think it's better than Matsumoto's) Grass Skirt Grill, Cholo's, and Haleiwa Eats - Heard good things about them, but haven't eaten at any of them yet Chocalte Gecko - Very good coffee shop and amazing hand made chocolates |
Aoki's - Very good shave ice (I think it's better than Matsumoto's)
Fabulous! Can't compare to Matsumoto's, because the line was too long at the latter, but Aoki's was scrumptious. |
Wow! Thanks for all the references. And especially for the farmers' markets, too. We will be renting a cottage, and I want to shop at a farmers' market especially for papaya, to which I am addicted.

There are also a few farm stands along the north shore towards Turtle Bay where we bought fresh fruits and veggies, just depends on what is in season.
