restaurants on Hilton Head

We will be near Hilton Head Presidents week and would like to find a nice restaurant for a birthday dinner for our family. We do have an infant with us. Open to suggestions. We are not really fish eaters per/say. thanks

Hilton Head has lots of good restaurants -- many of them pricey. There is a wide variety of cuisine available. Some are located on the water, others in various shopping or office complexes.

What type of food do you prefer? Is the setting of the restaurant important?

How far off the island will you be staying? Traffic on Rt. #278 can be an issue, particularly during a holiday week.

For a start, check out www.hhidining.com. Also, the Lowrey Group has five restaurants, all good, in various locations on the island. Their website is www.lowreygroup.com

From a 27 year resident:

Riviera Oaks opened a couple of monthes ago and is, IMO, the best ambiance and the best kitchen on the island. New Orleans Road, a half mile from Sea Pines gate.

We will be staying in Bluffton in sun city. We know the area is busy on vacation days. any other resturant in the area of bluffton or beaufort is okay with me. thanks for the help

My very favorite in Bluffton is Mulberry Street Trattoria. Joe is an excellent Italian chef. When driving toward the island, take the last right turn before the Moss Creek traffic light.

For lighter fare, try Badda Bing's on route 46, on your right a short distance from 278.

Another idea for you -- The Sunset Grill, which is located at the Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort and Marina. It is at the end of Jenkins Rd., the second left hand turn after you cross the bridge onto the island.

It is located on the second floor of the of the resort office building, with gorgeous views of the Intracoastal. (Be sure to get there before sunset!)

The food is excellent, and the restaurant is small and very popular, so reservations are a must. (843-689-6744) They also serve a dynamite brunch. Closed on Mondays.

Enjoy!

Avoid the Alligator Grille. A roach scurried across our table just as we were being seated and it didn't seem to bother the hostess one bit. ~ew~
