Restaurants on Fillmore in SF

Hi Fodorites: I'll be visiting San Francisco for a few days in April, staying in the Japantown area. I'm checking out restaurants close to the hotel and wonder if anyone has any comments on the following. Thank you!

1300 on Fillmore
Dosa on Fillmore
Yoshis

Kal will chime in with his review of 1300, which he loves. I really like the food and ambiance at Yoshi's. We went with some friends who are real foodies and LOVE Japanese food and they thought it was great.

I might add SPQR to your list - also on Fillmore, closer to California Street. Wonderful small bistro-type Italian, unfortunately, no reservations (but there's a really good wine bar kitty corner, and wonderful window-shopping, or real shopping, while you're waiting). Another in that area is Florio - very popular, although I like it, don't love it.

sf, I added SPQR to my list last night because their fried brussels sprouts were on the top 100 list. The place looks amazing!

starrs, I didn't get that far into the list -- the brussels sprouts are to die for! Be sure to go off-hours, or the wait is very long -- if you get there at 6:15 on a Friday night, you could wait 1-1/2 hours. Go at 2:00 for lunch, or 5:00 for an early dinner.

Completely off topic...Does anyone remember "Pacific Heights Bar and Grill"? They had a great oyster bar and a really good menu (and I worked there back in the late 80s).

Just wondering...

Back in the mid 70s wasn't the "Pacific Hights Bar & Grill" location called "Don't Call it Frisco?"

In Japantown, I like Bushi-tei, which is Franch, with a Japanese cook. If you can splurge, Quince is close by.

I also like Yoshi.

yes yes yes to all the above suggestions.

one that tends to be off the radar is cafe kati with amazing fresh california cuisine

elite cafe is sort of an institution serving cajun food. you can never get enough of the biscuits and the deviled eggs

fresca is good for peruvian food especially their ceviches.

Thanks so much for these great suggestions and feedback. I think I'll be well fed in this part of town. Can't wait!

I haven't been to the Dosa on Fillmore, but have eaten at the one on Valencia twice. Very good experiences, good food, nice service, etc.

Have fun.
