Restaurants near Waldorf Astoria
We are staying at the Waldorf Astoria in March. Any recommendations for restaurants in the area? We like everything, but prefer something that the locals would choose. We want to experience NY. Price range up to 50pp, except for one special lunch or dinner. Please mention whether we could walk or would need a cab.
Thank you for any input!

The Waldorf is in a business district with not a lot of restaurants immediately nearby - and those that are primarily either inexpensive lunch for office workers or quite upscale. One place you might try is Django on Lexington - good and interesting food.
If you walk over to Third or Second avenue there are a lot of casuale spots for a quick bite - and a couple of nicer places. But really you'll find many more trendy restaurants if you head downtown, theater places over on Ninth Avenue and lots of neighborhood places on the upper east or west side.
I wouldn't be caught up with places just near your hotel - since in visiting tourist sights you'll be taking the subway all over the city and will want to sample a bunch of diferent neighborhoods.
If you tell us your favorite foods, budget and atmosphere (trendy, romantic, elegant?) for the special meal people can make specific recos.

And while you are searching I might add that jumping in a cab to different neighborhoods is affordable. Mrlou can't wait to get back to
Due which is on the Upper East Side at 1396 3rd ave for great Italian. it was recommended by one that know great neighborhood haunts.
