Restaurants Near the Kennedy Center
 

The kids (ages 7,5, 4) are taking Mom (for Mother's Day) to a show at the Kennedy Center. We hope to have brunch/lunch before the show. Does any one know of a nice, but appropriate for kids type of restaurant near the Kennedy Center? <BR> <BR>Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Lotakids - I'm assuming you prefer not to eat at one of KC's restaurants, so I'm looking through Zagat's for some ideas ... something suitable for small kids, and fun. So, will post again soon. Ciao.

The best I could come up with in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood near KC is Bertucci's (chain, italian food - decent) and Burro Tex-Mex(2000 Pa. Av. NW), which gets some decent comments from the Zagat folks. If you get a chance to look at an Access Guide for DC, it will show you other places in the area. Good luck, and enjoy KC.

The Burro has good burritos, but is basically a take-out place, and I think it's closed on Sundays. There's not a whole lot in the neighborhood - besides Bertucci's, the other "family friendly" kind of place would be TGI Friday, across the street from Bertucci's. Other than that, the places to eat are either carry-out or expense account.

Bertucci's is foul. <BR> <BR>Go to www.washingtonpost.com and find the Post's restaurant critic's chats. Restaurants near the Kennedy Center is a common question, but I can't remember what he suggested, beyond Domnique's. However, most places in D.C. will be booked up already for Mother's Day. <BR> <BR>Don't know if this would be appropriate for kids, but you might want to try the restaurant in the hotel in the Watergate (is it the Swisshotel?). Might be pricey. <BR> <BR>

Ann, Bertucci's is certainly not foul .. it's a chain, of course, but fairly decent at that, plus the prices are right for what she has in mind. I'm not a lover of chain restuarants, by any means, but lets keep this in perspective. Please explain whether your condemnation is for the enitre chain or just a particular location in NW DC. I'm sure it didn't escape your eye that she's talking about a place with her kids in mind, ages 7, 5 and 4. You'd suggest sending her to Dominiques or possibly an expensive hotel? I'm not sure about the logic ... but I've offered all I can, and will leave it to you guys at this point. Ciao.

Bertucci's is most definitely foul. I've been to the Old Town Alexandria location and the one you're talking about, near GW, and both times the food and service were absolutely horrible. I only went the second time because I thought there was no way that a different location could be so awful. <BR> <BR>I have nothing against chain restaurants, as I often eat at chains. As long as the food and service are good, I don't care what the name is. And Lotakids never said anything about avoiding expensive restaurants, just that he/she is looking for a kids' type place. I often see plenty of kids in nice hotel dining rooms.
