Restaurants near Pittsburg, NH
Hi. My boyfriend and I are staying in Pittsburg, NH over New Years and would like to eat out one night. It doesn't really matter where--preferably no chains. I am having a hard time finding anything online. Any suggestions, and how far away from Pittsburg they are, would be very much appreciated.

Where is Pittsburg, NH - I have never heard of it. What is it near?

It is near Canada.
The weather looks pretty good for the weekend so you probably won't need chains (sorry, I couldn't resist). I haven't been there in quite awhile. In winter, Pittsburg is popular with snowmobilers and mushers. You might check the Balsams over in Dixville Notch. It's a resort. Otherwise, ask the people where you are staying who serves the best steaks. On your way coming or going, you might want to stop someplace for lunch. If you are flying into Manchester, it's a long drive to Pittsburg. If you want to bring your own liquor for the weekend, there is a state liquor store on Rt 93, north of Manchester. Liquor stores in NH are owned by the state. You can buy beer and wine in grocery and convenience stores, however. |
Hi,
Try the Rainbow Grill at the Tall Timbers Lodge. It's excellent. Other than that, there's not much up there. Pittsburg is very remote and beautiful. The Balsams Hotel down the road (20 minutes of so)would also be another choice. |
If you are asking about chains in Pittsburg, you have NO idea about the place! It is VERY remote and there are chains for many, many miles. Where could you possibly be staying?? I agree that Tall Timbers is the only game in town. It is on Back Lake, a bit north of "town", such as it is (a couple of general stores and a gas station). Excellent restaurant and a surprise for such a remote location. Balsams also very good but quite a drive from Pittsburg in winter and, believe it or not, they require jackets in the dining room at dinner! I used to spend lots of time in Pitsburg in the winter as a child 50 years ago. Was there a year ago and it hadn't changed at all. Beautiful place but you must love wilderness and isolation to be happy there.

So sorry. That should be "no chains for many, many miles". Oops.
