Barracks Row has quickly become Restaurant Row, although none are necessarily "low" price, except for may La Placita, a good Salvadoran place. I'd say either Matchbox (italian) or Cava Mezze (greek). Banana Cafe is OK Mexican/Cuban, but reasonable and great Margaritas.

I wonder how helpful it is, on a travel website, to just post a obvious website that anyone could google without anymore comment. The website is eight months out-of-date and doesn't give any information about price or value. I'd assume if someone can find the fodors site on the web, they can probably google the term Barracks Row.

LEVI’S PORT CAFÉ - 1102 8th Street, SE · 202.547.6500
Carolina BBQ, chicken and pork chops, southern greens, heavenly mac and cheese.
NO WEBSITE - This would be my top recommendation for great food, cheap, and fast.

Other good options, in order of increasing costs:
http://tedsbulletin.com/ (pretty fast once seated, but wait for a table might be an issue)
http://www.lavagnadc.com/ (new so it's not yet crowded)
http://www.belgacafe.com/ (reserve ahead)

Mike, good point.
That website still list the long closed Starfish Cafe!

For mid-to-low (under $20 food, not including alcohol) I agree with the above, esp. Cave Mezza and Las Placitas. I haven't been to either on a Friday evening before the parade but I think both places take bookings.

Holy moly, Levi's is terrific, though I would need a nap followed by a parade after eating their food. It is good. Do they take reservations? That might be my only issue on a Friday evening.

I've never been to Levi's. Now I want to go.

Thank you!!Much more help than travel agency sponsoring the trip.

It would help a bit if you could clarify your definition of "mid-low price" - for some, that's entrees at $10-15, for others anything under $25.

Matchbox has good casual food, wood oven pizzas etc., but is very popular and on Friday nights the wait times are significant. You'll probably have better luck at Cava Mezze. Sala Thai is also decent. Lavagna has a simple Italian menu, but good food and not yet overrun with crowds as mentioned above. For websites, try Menupages or Opentable and you can actually see photos, menus, and reviews (and with the latter, make a reservation).

... Should have added that there are some excellent and reasonably-priced places to eat that are very near, but not exactly on, Barracks Row (8th SE). On Pennsylvania between 6th and 7th SE, Ba Bay - modern Vietnamese, and a couple of doors down, Pound - local gourmet coffee place (which also has sandwiches and salads if you want something really inexpensive). On the corner of Penn and 7th, Le Pain Quotidien - yes it's a chain, but it has great homemade breads, organic salads/soups/sandwiches, huge French-style bowls of coffee/hot chocolate -and, of course, fantastic pastries and desserts. Further down on 7th towards Eastern Market is Montmartre: cute French bistro; another local coffee place: Perigrine; a pizza place (can't recall the name, sorry); and Marvelous Market: takeout sandwiches etc. Enjoy!
