Restaurants in the Del Mar, CA area?
Can anyone recommend restaurants (especially with a nice view) in the Del Mar area of California? We'll be spending a long weekend there this month. Any activities or exhibits to recommend? Thanks for your help.

BEv: The horse racing season begins tomorrow at Del Mar and continues into August. <BR>Some good restaurants in Del Mar are: Epazote, Pacifica Del Mar, Jakes's at the Beach, Poseidon (both Jake's and Poseidon are right on the beach). A little farther north are The Chart House and several other restaurants whose names escape me - maybe someone else can help out there! These are also on the beach. There are others, like Pamplemousse and the Fish Market which are good, but have no view. Because of the races, all of them will be very, very busy.

Loved Pamplemousse and the art makes up for no view. I wanted to bring the pig bench home with me! Make reservations well ahead during race season.

The Beach House in Cardiff-by-the-Sea is right up next to the waves.

Thanks for your help. I'm sure you'll be able to find us at the race track at least one day of our visit! I think we're staying across the street from the track. Are the evenings cool enough to need a sweater?

Bev: Yes, right now they are, especially if you're sitting outside eating.

One of my favorites restaurants with a view is the casual outside dining (deck)at Georges Restaurant in La Jolla. Great food with a view, atmosphere and reasonable prices. La Jolla would be about a 10-15 minute drive south of Del Mar depending on traffic. There also used to be a fine Italian Restaurant with a view in Del Mar near Pacifica Del Mar but I can't remember the name - some help here please. Jakes and the Poseiden are good recommendations. I also like the Brigantine overlooking the racetrack.
