Restaurants in San Francisco and Napa/Sonoma Valley
What are your favorite places for lunch or dinner? We like local, fresh, seasonal, well-prepared foods. All price points are an option as long as it is worth the price; ie: an unusual preparation or a unique ingredient. All cuisines are an option also. We have been to the city and wine country many times, so we have our favorites, but are always willing to experiment.

Agree about Slanted Door. But have a drink over at Boulevard first.
One of my favorites, Grand Cafe in SF, is apparently closed for renovations.
I like A16 in the Marina for Italian/Campagna cuisine and great wine list.

Atelier Crenn is $expensive$ but worth it if you are into fine dining, IMO.
I also like La Ciccia a lot.
Agree with Cotogna.

State Bird if you can get in is a fun experience.

Also finally tried Padrecito on Friday, upscale Mexican in Cole Valley, near the Haight end of GG Park. I have been meaning to get over there for over a year. I suspect it gets really crowded (and loud) later in the evening--we dropped by at 5:30. It was good. I was recently in Mexico and, while not quite up to some of the nicer meals I had there, we liked Padrecito a lot. Corn tamale and flautas de res were both tasty. So was an heirloom tomato and lemon cucumber salad. Negronis were delish--and pricey. Next time I'll stick to beer.

When we were in the area we had lunch at Tra Vigne (http://www.yelp.com/biz/tra-vigne-re...t-saint-helena) and it was SO GOOD. If you go you have to get the fresh mozzarella. To die for.
