restaurants in newport RI

We will be going fora long weekend and would like some suggestions on restaurants. We especially would like places with seafood. Any good places for lobster? Thank you!

The best place for lobster in Newport is Lobster Rouge.
The cheese biscuits are great and the service is excellent.

I highly recommend The Moorings. They have great lobster (steamed, broiled) as well as a chilled lobster claw app. that's great! Enjoy your time in Newport! It's one of my favorite places.

By the way -- are you staying in town?

Anthony's Seafood in Middletown. Very casual place. Fantastic seafood including lobsters. Very reasonably priced.

If you go to Newport the end of September (weekend of 20-22) you can taste most of the local restaurants during their annual Taste of Newport! It's great fun....and great food

thanks everyone. We will be there the weekend of the taste of Newport festival. Maybe we will try it. We are staying in newport at a B&B a few blocks from Thames. Hopefully close enough to walk. any more suggestions?

One of our new, favorite spots is Tricia's Tropi Grill on Jamestown - a short drive from Newport.

The Brick Alley Pub off of Thames St. is excellent and not too expensive.

I was there just last weekend.
I recommend Scales and Shells (seafood) and Asterisk & Oblisque (spelling???) which is funky type of seafood.
Both are further down on Thames Street.
Scales and Shells has an upstairs and a downstairs. Upstairs takes reservations and is smaller and quieter. Downstairs more casual, no reservations.
The food was delicious at both places and I recommend them both. Prices were moderate.
There are also lots of casual seafood restaurants of the wharfs-Black Pearl, The Moorings. I think these are more casual and the food not as good (but do try the clam chowder at Black Pearl). We went to both places in the middle of the afternoon in shorts.

Can anyone help with the name of this restaurant:
Italian, with some sidewalk seating.
On right-hand side of main road out of town toward Cliff Walk and Beach.
Excellent!
Thanks!!!

I believe the Italian place you are talking about is Puerini's (spelling?). Has a very good reputation- I think it is a bring your own bottle of wine restaurant (no liquor license).

kathy Sep 5th, 2002 03:28 PM

Have you been to Perinnis? I think I saw it on a list of recomended restuarants. Are there alot of bring your own wine places in Newport?

xxx Sep 6th, 2002 03:04 AM

No, there are not many BYOW places in Newport. All the restaurants mentioned above (except Puerini's) have liquor licences.
