Restaurants in New Haven

Looking for some good restaurants to make advance reservations for when we bring our son to college next week. Anything from pizza, Italian, steak and seafood or chinese. Thanks

Ok, this is really old information, but if Leon's is still there, it used to be very good. Also, Blessings for Chinese. I do know that the Chart House is gone.

When we are back in Connecticut we always like to go to Tre Scalini on Wooster St for Italian food. http://www.trescalinirestaurant.com/

For steaks and seafood, a place that used to be the Chart House is now called Sage. It overlooks the water. I've eaten there once since it opened as Sage, and I had a wonderful meal there.

Also, a trip to New Haven is not complete without pizza. If you go in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday, there won't be much of a wait for Pepe's on Wooster St. Otherwise, for pizza that we like just as much but without the hype and the wait, Modern Pizza is on State St. Neither one takes reservations, but if you don't go at peak times, you shouldn't have a problem.

If you do wind up at either Tre Scalini or Pepe's, make sure you go to Libby's (also on Wooster St.) for dessert!

Rumour has it that pizza was invented at Pepes' and exported to Italy.

If Pepe's is closed , then go to Sally's along the same street - equally good pizza.

Go to Pepe's. The pizza is wonderful!

It isn't in the categories you mentioned, but when we were students there, my friends and I loved to splurge for Roomba (Nuevo Latino), especially the desserts like tres leches. For pizza, we really liked BAR (try the mashed potato topping!) In Wooster Square, I always enjoyed Abate and as others mentioned, Libby's for dessert. Finally, the thai food in New Haven is excellent. Everyone has their favorites, but I loved Pad Thai on Church street.
