Restaurants in Napa Valley area

We're going for a short stay in Napa and there are so many, many restaurants to choose from. Any suggestions (other than French Laundry..)? Thanks.

Yountville:
Bottega-Michael Chiarello's new place. Just remember to eat the gnocchi with the corret spoon or he will come over and lecture you!
I heard there was a recent Michael Jordan sighting there.

Hurley's. Good Ribeye.
Bouchon's. (Good oyster bar).
Ad Hoc (Fr L's Thomas Keller's other resto)
Napa Valley Grille.
Redd-good grub but found it a bit hoity toity.

St Helena-
Go Fish
Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen
Martini House

Where are you staying?

Ad Hoc would be a good choice. We get their menu everyday...and it looks fab.

Yountville:
Bottega
Bistro Jeanty

St. Helena:
Go Fish
Market (casual - less expensive)
Press

Napa:

Cole's Chophouse
Annalien
Pearl

Top Choice would be Auberge d' Soliel in Rutherford for beautiful view, food and service. If weather is good, ask to sit on the veranda.

((Y)) for the steak frites at Bouchon and the cassoulet at Bistro Jeanty.

You didn't mention what your budget/price range is, but for casual dining, we enjoyed Napa Valley Grille on our recent trip. We weren't crazy about Bouchon, but others have had better experiences. Check out my trip report for more info:

In the past, we've also been to The Restaurant at Meadowood which was good but expensive (2-star Michelin).

We enjoy Redd, Martini House, Bistro Jeanty..we like FL but can be so over the top and lots of $$$..
Ubuntu is another great restaurant that is vegan and you won't miss the meat.
Hear great things about Ad Hoc.
Read that Bouchon is slipping big time, but its been awhile..love the oyster bar.
Taylor's Refresher in St. Helena for a ahi burger.

I loved Go Fish for lunch. I would try it for dinner next trip. The view at Auberge was beautiful - had a very nice lunch there.

PamSF May 20th, 2009 01:57 PM

IMHO~Go Fish is not particularly fresh!

PamSF May 20th, 2009 01:59 PM

Celadon is very good and has nice atmosphere. You might also check out Terra in St. Helena. I like the folks at Market and felt it was a great place to go. However, it slipped a bit this past Winter in my opinion. WHile not "fine dning" The Rutherford Grill is fun especially for lunch. Don Giovanni on Route 29 is also lovely especially sitting outside on a balmy evening.

Has anyone tried the restaurant at the new Bardessono Inn & Spa in Yountville?

texasjo May 20th, 2009 03:28 PM

We enjoyed Brix based on recommendation here. I think it was in Napa or St. Helena.

Lot's of good recommendations here. What's best for you though depends on what cuisines you prefer and where you will be staying.

Check out Hurley's in Yountville, www.hurleysrestaurant.com i found them through www.econcierges.com on their top 10 recommended restaurants. might be able to find some discounts there as well.

Pam - just saw your post. I've only eaten there once, but our lunch was excellent. I would only eat extremely fresh fish. Did I hit it on a good day? The reviews I had read prior to our trip were good. I also cook fish a lot and am extremely picky where I purchase it in NY even though it is so plentiful here. I assume your experience was awful.
