Restaurants in Houston
I'll try this question again. Can anyone recommend a good family restaurant in Houston? Thanks
Dottie, What is a "family" restaurant?
My defination would be reasonable in price since we are paying for five but I would hope it could also be in an interesting location, perhaps historic...Thanks for asking for specifics.
"reasonable" is also a very relative term. Posters would get better responses if they tell us their price ranges and type of food that they desire.
Try Bucca di Beppo (sp?) - it is on Buffalo Speedway a few blocks south of hwy 59. Its a fun Italian restaurant serving family style meals (large platters to be passed around the table). Has a fun atmosphere and very kid friendly. Book in advance and you can get the table in the kitchen.
Dottie-
Houston, pit that it truly is, does boast a tremendous array of restaurants in the moderate price range. Pick up a Sunday paper and check out the listings. Also, it would help if you specify in which part of town you are looking.
You'll enjoy a good meal at TGI Friday's on Greenspoint Drive in Houston. Plenty of local character, too!
Thank you all for your suggestions! If you have any more, would love to hear them!!
As of 5 years ago, any Pappas variation was a goood choice.
Dottie, a couple of additional quations. What part of town will you be in? What types of food does your family like or not like?
Lindsey - Northwest, off 290 and 1960 in cooperfield. Thanks
opps, got carried away with the send button! The adults like any kind of food. Pasta, Mexican, Asian, seafood, etc...the children are picky so the menu usually has to have some kind of pasta and hamburgers.
Dottie-
there's place called Tony Mandola's Table (or something similar) that is on IH-10 just outside Loop 610. They serve good Italian food famly style.
the Pappas restaurants (Pappasito's texMex, Pappadeaux cajun seafood, Pappamia Italain) are generally consistently good food but they've had a lot of price creep and are high end "moderate" at best in terms of cost. Also, there's usually a wait at most Pappas places - a good indicator, but keep in mind if you're toting along kids.
1960 has really built up and there are lots of places that might work for you. Check out the Houston Chronicle weekend edition.

Bar-B-q
Swinging Door is down in Richmond but worth the trip for a uniqu experience, 3818 FM 359 (McCrarey Rd.), Richmond (281) 342-4758.
County Line is nearer to you. Good ribs. Although a chain, at least it is based in Texas. 13850 Cutten (1 mi. north of FM 1960 W.) Houston (281) 537-2454
Seafood
If you go on a road trip down to Kemah and Galveston, any of the restaurants along the Kemah Boardwalk will be good.
Babin's Seafood House is nearer to you. I haven't been there, but I here the food is good. 17485 Tomball Pkwy. (Gessner) Houston, TX, 77064 (281) 477-9300

Mexican
Lupe Tortilla. About 20 minutes away. If your kids are young (under 6), there is a place to play. Get there early, or you will have to wait.

I have some friends who live out near there. I will ask where they take the kids. Hope this helps.

Lindsey - Wow! I'd forgotten about the Swinging Door. Best barbeque I've ever had and consistently good. Make reservations, because it fills up on weekend nights. I love that place.
Thanks everyone! Now I have choices!! If you remember any others, I would love to hear about them! I really wish NASA was not so...expensive, would love to go there. Are there any discounts that you know of?
Dottie, if you're heading down to NASA, you'll want to stop at the Cracker Barrel on Gulf Freeway for lunch. You can get coupons for the place at the visitors centers leading into the state.
YOU HAVE TO GO TO CHEESECAKE FACTORY AT THE GALLERIA!!!IT HAS THE BEST FOOD AND ATMOSPHERE!!!!!
I live in the area you are visiting. All of my three kids absolute favorite restaurant is Texas Roadhouse (corner of 1960/HWY6 and 290. Good food and fun atmosphere. You can throw peanut shells on the floor, the kids love it! PS: stay away if you have peanut allergy!! Best Fajitas IMHO are at Fajita Willies (HWY6 @ FM 529). Not as crowded and overrun as Pappasitos.

Thanks guys, one and all!!
