Restaurants in Detroit

I am a convention planner. I am looking for restaurants in Detroit near Cobo Hall which are nice and not expensive (approx.25US$ per person). I would like to find a place which is special for some reason (e.g.: view, decoration). Thanks a lot.

There are several good resturants by Cobo Hall. Roght across the street in the Ponchatrain Hotel there is a restaurant called the Mesquite Creek. They have the best steaks and potatoes at pretty decent prices. Also in walking distance from the hall there is an Irish pub called Galligan's. This place has a really cool atmosphere and the food is cheap yet tasty.

First a url to check, unfortunately this site does not allow hot links but try:

This aside: Near Cobo: In Greektown, an area with some night life : Fishbones, a cajun restaurant that is lots of fun. Dress is anything goes from black tie to jeans. Would be a fun casual nite for a conference.

Off the wall place: Blue Nile: Ethiopian: lots of vegetarian dishes, very hip crowd, eat with your hands. Another memorable place.

Detroit basically ignores its waterfront for viewing etc. This is an industrial city and though there are no plants there anymore, downtown has very little on the water. But you can walk on the wild side and eat in the middle of the food distribution market and rub elbows with the local mafia and lots of colorful people who have been eating at Romas in the Eastern Market for years. Good food, old style Italian service (tuxedoed waiters, music, etc.) good, non trendy Italian food.

Final two recs are best restaurants in Downtown area and might be over your price limit but they might do a special menu: Rattlesnake Club with celebrity chef Jimmy Schmidt and Opus One the business power dinner place.

Isabel: It's been more than 10 years since I ate there, but I had a great time at Pegasus Taverna in Greektown. Great food, great atmosphere.
