Restaurants in Bar Harbor
We're spending 3 nights in Bar harbor over the July 4th weekend and realized it's not too soon to make dinner reservations. We'd love some recommendations.

We were in Bar Harbor last year just before July 4th. We were able to get reservations to most places on the day of. Some restaurants may not even be open yet. Personally I don't think the restaurants in Bar Harbor are all that special. I would recommend checking out one of the lobster pounds just for the experience.

Other that the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound (our favorite), we had our best dinner in Bar Harbor at Cafe This Way. The following is a link to a review that describes it well. I can also recommend the Frommers book pictured on the page.

I second the recommendation for George's, it is wonderful and has great ambiance. I wouldn't recommend The Rose Garden in the Blue Nose Hotel. The food was ok, but I found the place to be stuffy.

We were in Bar Harbor last July and enjoyed Anthony's for good Italian. Like Craig said, there was never a problem of making a reservation that same day.
I would also second the recommendation for the Trenton Lobster Pound. You pick the lobster and they cook it and call you back up when it is ready. One of the best meals that we had. |
One more thing--Not for dinner, but do stop in anyway at the Jordan Pond House in Acadia Nat'l Park for popovers--a real treat.

A follow up to my other post. You should also check on chowhound.com and search for Bar Harbor. The Bar Harbor discussions will be on the New England Board and you can use the ctrl f function and type "Bar Harbor" there should be plenty of good recs.
Bon Appetit! |
Thanks for the suggestions. It might be a bit early, but I think we will make some reservations some time in June just to be safe.

Trenton Lobster Pound is our favorite. They also have great steamed clams. We weren't impressed with any of the Bar Harbor restaurants. They were OK. The best suggestion is to ask the locals.
