Do you have any recommendations regarding restaurants, cafes, bakeries, bagel-places, etc, within walking distance of 14th Street on the Westside?

Lovely little Italian placed named Da Andrea at 35 West 13th Street between 5th & 6th Avenues. I don't know if that's convenient for you, but it's worth it. Also, if you want something really crazy, go to EATALY on West 23rd at 5th Avenue. That's just an experience in itself although it can be expensive.

Of the best bakeries is City Bakery on 18th Street, right off Fifth.
There is a Belgian chain that makes excellent brownies and breads Le Pain Quotidien. There are a few in the area.
Amy's is on Bleecker and the Chelsea Market. Everything is good there.
Also in the Chelsea market is Fat Witch and all they make are brownies. There are othe bakeries in Chelsea Market but they are not as good as Amy's and Fat Witch.
For Bagels go to Murray's Sixth Ave between 12 and 13. And remember they will not toast a bagel.
La Begamonte makes excellent pastries.

Two other good bakeries on 9th Ave, around 20th St are Billy's Bakery and Three Tarts although Bergamote is my favorite. In Chelsea Market, there's also Eleni's.
Lots of excellent restaurants in that area. Standard Grill, Cookshop, Red Cat, Omai,Pastis, Spice Market,Del Posto Bistro de la Gare to name a few.

Donut Pub is one of the last of a dying breed, an independent donut shop.
But for the best donuts in NYC there is a branch of Donut Plant on the ground floor of the Chelsea Hotel. Worth the walk.

We have returned from our NYC vacation in the Meatpacking District. Thanks to all for their suggestions. Within walking distance, we found more than 20 places to dine and enjoyed almost every one of them.
