Restaurants & Bars in NOLA?
Have a good suggestion for breakfast, lunch or light dinner in New Orleans? Good bars or clubs featuring 80's music?
|
Good big breakfasts can be found at Petunia's in the Quarter or if you want something lighter, try Cafe duMonde. As for music, just walk down Bourbon St. until something catches your ear.

Not neccessarily places for '80's music (BTW, the Flock of Seagulls-doo is out in NOLA) but I've had fun at the Tropical Isle and some pirate themed bar on Bourban Street. If you up for somewhat cheesy, but quite a bit of fun in the right mood, my wife and I have always had a blast at Laffitte's Blacksmith Shop on Bourbon. If he's still alive, Johnny's piano show is a must.
In terms of bars, the Napolean House is always great. The play plenty of '80s music. |
Napoleon House plays 80's music? Maybe from the 1780's! Only music I've ever heard in there is classical. It is a great bar though, one of my favorites. Jean

NOLA- is an Emeril Lagasse restaurant. excellent food. Not too spicy.
Commander's Palace is a must for Sunday Jazz Brunch. |
That's what I meant, but sent the message before typing 1780's w/o proofreading.

The Cat's Meow on Bourbon has really great karaoke. Probably plenty from the 80's. The Shim Sham Club also in the French Quarter has theme nights. When we were there it was something like Tuesdays - Heavy Metal, Thursdays -Disco, etc. They would be somewhere to check out. The Mid-City Rock and Bowl has different music on different nights but I don't know about 80's music.

Shim Sham would have been a great choice except it closed 2-3 years ago! It was a fun club, too.
|
Definitely check out the lively piano bar at Pat O'Brien's on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. (I think the entrance is on St. Peter Street.) Make sure there's room in your suitcase for plenty of empty Hurricane glasses!

I'm so disappointed that the Shim Sham Club closed. We were there 2 years ago in October. Hope we didn't have anything to do with the closing!

:-? How would ccolor know about breakfasts when she doesn't "come to" that early????
Light dinner and music...take a trip out to JacquesImos and then go next door to Maple Leaf. Or Tipitina's. Good red beans and rice w/ music/dancing and good people watching. Don't know if they'd allow 80s music there, tho.b( |
Would you suggest lunch or dinner at Emril's? Are reservations recommended?
|
Acme Oyster Bar in the Quarter.

Oh my - dinner at NOLA's is incredible! Best service I ever had. The waittress even gave us her card and told us to ask for her again. She was a true professional. Incredible food, incredible desserts, beautiful place.
AND, Mother's for lunch. Try the shrimp jambalaya and the bread pudding for dessert. You won't be sorry. Expect a long line to get in. It's worth it. My 2 cents. Steve R Silver Spring MD |
80's music? Like who? Bryan Ferry? Cyndi Lauper?
|
Definitely Petunia's for breakfast. We ate there every morning. Light dinner??
Couldn't find any. Portions everywhere are HUGE!! If you are looking for light, would suggest sharing, which is what we will do next time, especially during lunch. Cat's Meow definitely was 80's and 90's music. In fact, on Bourbon, there are all types of music- take your pick. |
