Restaurants @4 Seasons/Renaissance
Curious as to the cost at the restaurants at these 2 hotels since apparently you are pretty much stuck eating at the hotels in the Wailea area. Anyone with info as to the cost of the breakfast buffets and these two hotels might shed some light on how they are pricing meals.

Also curious about the beds in the Renaissance. From the pictures on the 4 Seasons website, the beds look great but not so sure about the Renaissance. Reason I'm wondering is we stayed at the San Juan Grand (Intercontinental Hotel) recently and the beds were horrible, but the room prices where 2nd only to the El San Juan. Might be penny wise and pound foolish to spend less for the room only to toss and turn all night on a lousy bed.

Any responses on the above issues would be appreciated.

El San Juan beds are awful also. The problem is making beds with flat bottom sheets that are placed directly on plastic matresses. I now call hotels and ask how the beds are made. Can't believe I have resorted to this but I need a good nights rest.

we stayed at the Renaissance last year. The price of the buffet was in line with other hotels in we stayed at in Maui. I can't remember the exact cost. I do remember the bed, however, since it was one of the best we had found. We travel quite a bit and the bed that we had at the Renaissance was excellent.

We stayed at the Reanaissance in February, the bed was very comfortable. We only at lunch at the Maui Onion at the hotel, cost about $40 for burgers and beverages for 2. The rooms have a small fridge that you can use, so we bought yogurt for our breakfast. We ate dinner at Nick's Fish Market at the Kea Lani, it was excellent. I think we paid about $150 for drinks, appetizer/salad, entree, desert, and coffee for 2. We asked the bellman at the Kea Lani about getting a cab to take us back to the Renaisaance, instead he had one of their cars take us.

Anna, wow, now that was an expensive burger and drink. That's what I was afraid of....and the $150 for dinner, yikes! Guess I better stay at the Renaissance and put the different between the Four Seasons into the food budget.

We also had burgers at the Maui Onion. They were quite good by the way. My guess is that the above poster either had more than one drink and/or included the tip in that $40 cost. Still, the Ren is a 1st class hotel and you will pay top dollar to eat there. Don't fret, there are many places to eat next door to Wailea in Kihei that will be much easier on your budget. I also remember that the Ren had a dessert buffet that was outstanding.

I have also stayed at the Renaissance, and I nevered had breakfast there because of the prices. Instead, used the in room coffee maker to make some coffee 1st thing in the morning, and we then took the short(10-15 mins) drive to Kihei for less expensive breakfast. There is a IHOP there, and we had nice breakfasts at IHOP prices.

The thought of big breakfast buffets before climbing into a bathing suit to go down to the beach or the pool never really appealed to us much(nor did the prices beyond, maybe a Sunday brunch. So, (we stayed at the Kea Lani) we would go down to the Kea Lani's deli and pick up a juice, muffin, coffee...whatever...and just eat that. We also picked up some basics like cereal at the grocery store in Kihei, put it in our frig...saved the money more for evening dinners.
