restaurant with view NYC

I would like a recomendation on a NYC restaurant with a City view and also a popular steak restaurant.

For an a-one view: River Cafe in Brooklyn, just under the Brooklyn Bridge (gorgeous, easy stroll from Manhattan). It's a wonderful, outdoor restaurant, phenom. menu, great service. www.rivercafe.com

NY's best steakhouse also happens to be in Brooklyn, Peter Luger in Williamsburg. Bar-none, the best. www.peterluger.com. The chains, like Ruth's Chris or Smith and Wollensky along with the local faves, like Palm or Gallagher's or even Les Halles pale in comparison.

(this strong opinion comes from a former Kansan-to Manhattan transplant. I know my beef, believe me.)

If you want a view of the city, consider coming over to the Jersey side! A short ferry ride will get you over to Weehawken, NJ where you can pick from either Chart House or Ruth's Chris for Steaks, and also Arthur's Landing or Spirito Grill for delicious fare.

I agree with Kehsutton. If you don't want to go to Brooklyn here are some Manhattan alternatives

For view

There are several restaurants in hotels in Times Square with views--- Foley's Fish House in the Renaissance hotel, Above in the Hilton Times Square, the View in the Marriott Marquis.

Terrace in the Sky all the way uptown near Columbia University has a city view and good food.

The Rainbow Room has spectacular views but is only open certain weekend nights.

Top of the Tower in the Beekman Towers Hotel (neara the UN) has very nice views but average food. Better for a drink IMO

Finally, in the new Mandarin Oriental Hotel, the restaurant off the lobby (which is the 35th floor of the Time Warner building) has lovely views.

There are a number of bars with great views.

For the best steak IMO in Manhattan, Sparks. For the best "old time" ambiance in a steakhouse in Manhattan, Keens or the Post House.

Thanks for the nod, Mikemo. Might help that my brother, who also shares similar opinions about steak and views in NYC, lives in the Dumbo 'hood of Brooklyn.

The View in the Marriott Marquis is a revolving restaurant. My sister and I were intending on having dinner there but we were late for the theatre so we just had appetizers. They were wonderful, especially the shrimp. If you choose this restaurant, try and be there at sunset. The views are spectacular. Service was excellent too.
