What are some of your favorite restaurants in east 50th st. area? nearby grocery stores,i.e. Gristedes or some other??

You will shocked at the supermarket prices, even for Manhattan in that neighborhood. Food Emporium under the bridge

Great bagels-Ess-a-Bagels

We stayed on E 50th (Affinia 50) and found a CVS store a few blocks away. While a bit higher than home, I thought there prices were not too bad.

For Chinese food, there's none better than Shun Lee Palace on East 55th Street, between Lexington and Third.

Great, inexpensive italian: Via Italia on 46th between 5th and 6th.
