Ashland, VA - north of richmond - the Smokey Pig - great barbecue, "apple puppies", reasonable prices, good service! Close to exit: Get off 95 at Ashland exit, west on 54, south on Route 1 at light, smokey Pig is about 1/2 mile on right. <BR>For something a bit pricier and fancier, but really good - The Iron Horse, serves great steaks. Same exit off 95, continue west on 54 until you cross railroad tracks (downtown Ashland), the Iron horse is in the building immediately to your left. <BR>If you like Mexican or Greek food, a little place that is terrific is Su Casa at 4013 West Broad St. Easiest way to find it would be to take Broad Street west exit off 95, downtown Richmond, continue west about 3 miles, SuCase will be on your left near the Broad and Malvern intersection. The owner & his wife are Greek, she makes authentic Greek desserts and entrees, the cooks are from Guatemala originally & make terrific Mexican food. Really friendly people. <BR>My absolute favorite restaurant is La Petite France, it is very expensive for dinner, lunch is more reasonable. A meal there is truly an event. 95 to 64 west, Staples Mill road exit, bear left toward Broad St. South on Staples Mill, turn left when you see Noland Plumbing Supply on your left (I cannot remember the street!)Go only a short distance, then left on Maywill St., La Petite France will be on your left. Sort of an industrial area, but Chef Paul Ebling has been there 25 years and lovers of excellent food find him without any trouble.
