Restaurant Rec's in Greenville, SC
I'm going to be driving to Charleston, SC with a group of guys in September. We're stopping for the night in Greenville, SC. We're all a bit food snobbish and are looking for some restaurant recommendations.
Trattoria Giorgio and Restorante Bergamo both seem to get good reviews, but nothing beats a first hand recommendation.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

My favorite is Smoke On the Water. It is an upscale BBQ place near the Reedy River. Where ever you go save some time to walk through the Falls park.
There also is a family owned chain. Stax, Stax Omega, Stax Grill, etc. I like Stax Grill. It is near Haywood Mall.
If you have time. Take in a baseball game The home team is good and the brand new stadium is a good atmosphere. The ballfield is within walking distance of the Falls park and good restaurants.

I haven't been here, but plan on taking my parents to 33 Liberty the next time I visit them in Greenville. It also gets good reviews and the menu looks terrific.

Greenville is not a good place for food snobs. Trattoria Giorgio is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. I gave it two shots because it is in a fantasic location and a beautiful building and the owner really is Italian....Nonetheless, it sucks big time.
Restaurante Bergamo is better, but not great.
I don't mean to offend the princess, but I went to Smoke on the Water about a year ago and thought it was mediocre, and I'm told that it has gone downhill since. Also, Stax, while a Greenville institution, is very very mediocre frozen-food-off-a-truck kind of chain. I do agree completely that Falls park is worth a look.
I would suggest 33 Liberty, Devereaux(expensive), Sushi Koji, Island Blend (very casual lunch), Barleys (just for the huge beer selection, the pizza is just adequate), maybe Lemongrass if you feel like Thai.
Two rather expensive spots are O and Wine Cafe, both downtown (which is where I assume you want to be from the restaurants you were looking at). I have only had apps at both, and found them to be adequate, but not good enough that I have been in a huge hurry to have dinner there, so I can't really review. Please let us know where you eat and what you thought.
