Restaurant recs for Summit County region?
My family will be staying in Silverthorne the week prior to Christmas. Where do the locals go for good food? It doesn't have to be fancy but we are open to anything.

apseals, there have been a couple of good threads on this in the last couple of days. Click on my name and you should find them in the top 50.
Check out Mexico in Dillon. It's a decidedly different version of Mexican food. |
Some basic inexpensive local hangouts ...
Maxwells in the City Market shopping center. Goodburgers, pizza, pasta Arapahoe Inn, we eat downstairs at the "Pub Down Under" |
Rasta Pasta in Breck. Also Bubba Gumps.

Grasshopper: Thanks for the direction on the two threads. I copied both and will take them next week. Usually I do a more thorough search of the threads but today I was so busy that I just took the easy way out. Sorry! :(
I do have an unrelated question for that area that you may be able to help me with. My mother in law (age 79 but in great health) will be with us and she would like to take a snow cat tour. She has never skied and wants to "see what the skiers do". I remember when we were in Winter Park that the resort offered Snow Cat tours. I have looked and have not seen any for the Summit County area. Have you heard of them being offered? |
I've never done that but I did find this:
http://www.novaguides.com/snowcat.htm Can't vouch for them. You might want to check out my travel tips on www.virtualtourist.com (member name callavetta) for Summit Co. Feel free to email me there with questions. |
Grasshopper: I am taking your advice about Mexico Restaurant and Cantina in Dillon. I made a reservation for my mother-in-law's birthday dinner from their website and they responded very quickly with a lovely note stating that they will provide a complimentary dessert for her and look forward to making our dining experince a memorable one. She also asked how I heard about their restaurant and I told her about the message boards here and the virtual tourist website. Thanks again for your help and description of this new restaurant in Dillon. Now let's hope for some good snow between the 16th and the 23rd! :)

We like the Backcountry Brewery in Frisco. We like the Breckenridge Brewery in Breckenridge. And for a nice dinner, we highly recommend the Cafe Alpine in Breck. Have fun.

Just back from Colorado. I wanted to let everyone know that we ate at Mexico Restaurant and Cantina in Dillon and it was great. The service was consistent, the food was of good quality and presented well on the plate. The architecture of the restaurant is worth the trip alone. It is not a Tex-Mex restaurant but the open faced quesadillas are a good choice if that is what you are looking for. The salsa prepared tableside to your specifications is also a nice touch and was very good as well. The pricing is not cheap but in return you get cloth napkins, tablecloths and a wonderful night of food in a very unique setting. Thanks for the suggestion Grasshopper!
