Restaurant Recommendations - NYC/Manhattan experts

Please - need a very nice, quiet and romantic restaurant on the upper West Side. Love Picholine, but too pricey. Any recommendations in a more modest price range? Any cuisine is OK - it's the ambience that is important.

Sounds like Cafe des Artistes to me!

Thanks, NeoPatrick - I thought of that, but figured it might be too pricey. I'll check out the menu. Anyone else? Maybe up on Columbus near the museum?

Quiet, romantic and modest prices and the UWS don't usually go together, but you might try Dovetail, Telepan or eighty-one; none of them are cheap, but they are a bit quieter. Ouest is good, but not particularly romantic. Nougatine, the less expensive cafe at Jean-Georges can be nice, but not chintz and flowery-romantic.

More reasonable on the UWS - La Grolla, Pasha,La Mirabelle.

La Boite en Bois on W 68th Street is a nice french restaurant. Not cheap, but not overly expensive either.

I prefer the food at La Boite over the food at Cafe des Artistes.

In regards to a romantic setting. La Boite is charming- think country french vs the beautiful murals and more opulaent setting at Cafe des Artistes.
