Restaurant recommendations for Monterey area?

We're interested in all cuisines as long as there are options other than red meat and poultry, veggies and fish are perfect!

the Chart House is very good----theres a very good more casual dinign spot on Cannery Row closer to the aqaurium, but i cant recall the name--its a large place on the water with a dock next to it. Also for a casual place, drive past Monterry towrads Carmel and youll frst come to Pacifc Grove---its on a point--theres a terrific lunch/breakfast spot right there

Passionfish in Pacific Grove is a terrific restaurant.
One of the best in the whole Monterey area.

A more casual place we can never pass up is:
Petra at 477 Lighthouse Ave. in Pacific Grove.
The owners are from Jordan and offer a wide range of Mediterranean dishes, something for everybody.

Fish Hopper (www.fishhopper.com)
Gilbert's (www.gilbertsmonterey.com)

My BIL recommended Old Fisherman's Grotto at Fisherman's Wharf (www.oldfishermansgrotto.com).

Fish Hopper is great.

We used to go to Old Fisherman's Grotto - our family went there for years and years, but the last couple times we went, they didn't seem up to snuff. Chowder is too salty, fish not as good as usual. I hope we just hit them on a couple off days and that it isn't a trend. Anybody else eat there recently?

Isabella's on the wharf is good - views are great and it is a cut above what you usually get on the wharf.

For breakfast we like Rosine's for traditional coffeeshop fare, and Wild Plum Cafe for a more funky environment (steamed eggs - yum).

I have got to give Pasionfish another try. We went a couple years ago on my birthday and it left a lot to be desired. My husband said he wasn't going back (it wasn't THAT bad - just a terribly long wait even with reservations and very crowded), but given all the great reviews they get here over and over again, I think we should definitely give them another try.

We ate at Bistro Moulin both times we visited the aquarium this past spring. It might be too red meat and poultry heavy, but it was fantastic. If you go get the small portion of the gnocchi. It was fabulous.

Last year we stayed in Monterey, but before our trip to CA I was looking through the $25.00 off coupons for the area and came across one for Frutti De Mar Grill in Marina, a ten minute drive north of Monterey.
fruttidemargrill.com/review.html

It is the first exit off the highway on the right hand side in a small strip of stores. It's next to a laundromat.

It doesn't look like much from the outside, but walk in and you are greeted by white starched linen and sparling glasses and silver.

The food, Italian/seafood was outstanding and the service remarkable. It was the best of eleven dinners we had during the trip.
