Restaurant Recommendation needed near Heritage Square Museum, Los Angeles
We'll be visiting the Heritage Square Museum next Sunday. We would appreciate some suggestions on mid range restaurants for either lunch or dinner nearby, preferably not Mexican. Someone in our group cannot eat highly spiced food.
Heritage Square Museum
3800 Homer Street
Los Angeles 90031
Exit Avenue 43 of the 110 FWY

Any thoughts on the museum would be appreciated, too, since this will be a first visit.
Thanks very much.

There really isn't anything that I would describe as "nearby." Where are you coming from and/or going to after your visit? There are many options in Pasadena, South Pasadena and Alhambra (in one direction), Atwater and Glendale (in another direction), Silver Lake (in another), downtown/Chinatown (in another).

I'd go to historic Philippe's for a French dipped sandwich or somewhere in Chinatown. Philippe's website has a link to Googlemaps for driving directions, and you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner, depending on your timing.

You can find something on Philippe's menu... Salads, pretty good soups and one of their baked apples for dessert. Yum.
No, I haven't been to Heritage Square, although I've driven past it hundreds of times. (The homes were moved there many years ago and sat forlornly without any apparent attention for a long time.) I don't know anything about the tour of the houses or even whether they are furnished in period decor.
There is a large collection of Victorian homes in the West Adams area of Los Angeles, but as the homes are occupied there are no tours except occasionally for fund-raising.

The best example of the Craftsman style that you can tour is the Gamble House in Pasadena. A true masterpiece. It's open on Sundays.
