Northern Italian really calls to me. But so do the tartines at Le Bateau Ivre. Decisions, decisions...
|
Why can't you go to the Bar Room at MOMA or the Dining Room? Not much better than that..seems a lot of to do about a few meals when you have so many good recommendations.
La Batau Ivre is a local place near my house..never been, never wanted to go... |
Looked at the menus at MOMA and weren't too excited. Our friend is a light eater and will be happy with a tartine or two. Le Bateau Ivre has some strong recommendations on various forums.
|
Shun Lee Palace is on the lunch list. In northern California, Cantonese food (aside from San Francisco) has mostly given way to Hunanese and Mandarin menus. A change would be very nice.

Can anyone tell me whether Certé Pizza is actually a restaurant? The web site seems to be entirely dedicated to catering, with no info on actual dining.
We have most of our dinners, and one lunch, set and reserved: The Monkey Bar, Nice Matin, Chez Napoléon, Jubilee, Amma, Boulud Sud. That leaves one opening for pizza unless we have a slice for lunch one day. |
Sorry, but I've never heard of Certe Pizza.
If you want to have pizza as a meal, go to one of the really good places. Marta on E. 29th Street would be easy to get to from your hotel, and it's new and good. But if you just want a slice, it makes little difference where you go. |
Pizza as a meal: yes! Marta looks good. Others?
|
Certe is more of a place for a quick slice, not really a "restaurant". I'd try Angelo's on 55th and 2nd Avenue only a few blocks from Certe, it's a sit down restaurant and doesn't serve slices only whole pizzas. I gave you a link back in April, see above. BTW when are you coming to NYC?
|
Frank,
I was just looking back through this thread to find your recommendation--thanks for posting it again. That takes care of the pizza dinner. We arrive at nearly midnight on October 30th. |
|
If you go to the parade watch from the side of the street where your hotel is located. It is very difficult to navigate the crowd and get across the avenue.
|
?
I don't think the OP's hotel is anywhere near Greenwich Village. |
We're planning to watch the parade on TV.
|
Tuscan-have you been to the parade? Have you tried to get across town during the parade?
|
|
The Halloween Parade? Yes, I've been to it. Actually, I've been IN it.
I didn't understand the warning about crossing town from where I thought the OP was staying, near 54th St, to get to the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade route. But I'm seriously open to hearing about the difficulties of getting there. I honestly thought there might be some mistake in your warning, IMDonehere. I thought maybe you had missed the reference to the Halloween Parade and were talking about the T'giving Day Parade. I wasn't challenging, just asking for clarification. Sorry if I came across otherwise. Maybe I'm being thick, which I will accept. I've always walked to the Halloween Parade and had to think about the parade route, but not exactly where I was coming from, which was E. 7th St. |
NeoPatrick,
We LOVED Chez Napoléon, even if Madame was a bit testy when I wanted to order the prix fixe plus a soufflé. She changed the whole order to the carte prices, but the meal was worth it. I'll be posting our restaurant reviews once my brain gets back on California time. |
Tuscan-I just saw this. No problem.
|
"We LOVED Chez Napoléon"
What did you have..We'll be there next week. ((H)) |
I had the trout, which was really good, and my husband had the excellent (and a lot of) hunter's chicken, both on the prix fixe that night. We could have chosen just about everything on the carte, however, and been happy. It was nice to have a choice among so many French wines, too. I wish I could join you.
