Restaurant near Whitney Museum

My annual New York City weekend with my college friends is coming up. There will be six of us, and we are thinking of going to the Whitney downtown after the matinee we are seeing Saturday, then out to dinner.

Any suggestions for restaurants near the Whitney? Price in the moderate range is preferable, but I'll take a look at everyone's ideas.

Thanks in advance for all suggestions.

There are a few depending on your taste and budget.

Santini but they have an onerous reservation penalty

Coppelia Cuban/Latino/Americano

Billy's Burgers

Bubby's

Cookshop

UNTITLED inside the museum is good; judicious ordering might keep the price reasonable.

For Italian, this has been popular for many years:

Yes, as ekscrunchy did, I would also have recommended Untitled, a great restaurant IN the museum. But it is pricey. Cookshop is good but not really all that much cheaper. Maybe you should head back to Chelsea, where there are more moderately priced restaurants, though it's a walk.

Regardless of where you eat, a reservation is an absolute necessity on a Saturday night for 6 people, and you need to make the reservations asap.

Doug (and Nikki), I am sorry to break in here but I cannot seem to get the attention of an editor who could mark my ongoing New Orleans thread a trip report.....thought I might catch you here and ask you to forward the request to the right editor. I did e-mail, twice, but no luck with that..

Thanks and sorry again to introduce an unrelated topic!!

Back to NYC eating!!! Maybe Piccolo Angolo would suit; I linked it above but forgot to mention the name..it is a tiny "cozy" family-owned Italian place that had many fans and has been around a very long time..the owner died not too long ago but the place is still going strong. I have not been in ages, though, but it is very, very popular.

Here is a little more about Piccolo Angolo; this site is pretty good for restaurant info:

After much discussion it looks like we have a reservation at Bubby's. Thanks for all the ideas.

@ekscrunchy I no longer have the ability to change something to a trip report (I'm no longer a moderator). So that's a task for the mods, but it's not a priority request and may take a while.

Doug thanks for responding. Someone did take care of it and again, I apologize for budding in here to ask you.....

You are welcome. You are lucky, Bubby only takes reservations for larger groups. On the weekends you will probably have to navigate around the $600 strollers.
