Restaurant near Richard Rogers Theater

We're planning to see In the Heights and need help with restaurant recommendations near that area. The theater is located on West 46th between Broadway and 8th. We would like a place to just grab a quick bite to eat. Casual is fine.

This board has been really helpful. Thanks in advance!

Type of cuisine?
Budget?

The next block west, 46th b/w 8th & 9th is called "restaurant row" and has one place after another. Joe Allen's is apopular theater hangout serving casual American food (burgers, meatloaf, salads, chicken) but gets very crowded. Book in advance. Also on the same block is the Hourglass Tavern (at the other end of the block) another casual place. House of Brews is next to Joe Allen's. I've never tried it but it gets ok reviews on menupages.com

If you feel like pizza, John's pizzeria on west 44th st. in a converted church is a famous outpost of the original in Greenwich Village.

Right at the end of that street is the Hourglass Tavern, which we really like. Eclectic American food, nice atmosphere, not hard on the budget.

We also love Pietrasanta, for Italian, on 9th Avenue between 47th and 48th:

In general, 9th Ave. is a great bet for good restaurants that are affordable and not tourist-y.

Thanks mclaurie! John's Pizzeria was exactly what I was looking for. We didn't have NY pizza in our itinerary yet...and now we do. It will be so close to the theater too which makes it so convenient! I assume they don't take reservations. Do you know how the waits are on Sundays 5:30 or 10:00 pm? We don't know if we'll do it before the 7:00 show or after.

John's doesn't take a reservation, but there is a lot of seating and the wait goes fast. I've never waited more than 20 minutes if that helps at all. Have fun!

Here's another idea. Do John's Pizza before the show, then cut through to Shubert Alley after the show for some cheesecake at Juniors.

NeoPatrick - What a fabulous idea! I just went on their website to check them out. We'll make sure to go there. I feel like I'm going to gain 30 pounds from all this eating in NYC!

If you go to John's, 5:30 is a good idea. While the wait isn't long, if the restaurant is crowded service can be a little slow. 5:30 will be perfectly fine for your 7:00 show.
