Restaurant near Cadillac Theater, Chicago
 

We're seeing a show at the Cadillac Theater (151 W. Randolph, between Wells and LaSalle) Saturday evening, and are looking for a restaurant nearby so we can park once and walk between the parking, restaurant and theater.

We like all kinds of ethnic food, and would like a moderately priced place--entrees under $20 is our target.

I believe it was the Cadillac where we saw Lion King. We ate at the Italian Village Restaurants, it is 3 levels of Italian, we enjoyed the food and especially enjoyed just walking around the corner to the Theater. Check: http://www.italianvillage-chicago.com/

You have all kinds of choices. My two favorite in that area and in CLOSE walking distance are:

Atwood Cafe- great for luncheon or dinner, but I like their luncheon ambiance a bit better. Good salads and generally fresh, eclectic American food, presented well.

Trattoria #10- This is downstairs at 10 N. Dearborn and I just love the surroundings AND the food. It's not your normal red sauce Italian, more Northern Italian. They always have good specials and their house standby is a Butternut Squash Ravioli (always available). The salads are very good, as are the soups. It's a la carte and has a good wine list. It's more quiet and elegant than Atwood.

Both of these are moderately priced.

You can go to www.metromix.com and put in your 151 W. Randolph address and compare that to the LOOP location restaurants/choices reviews. There are many. But many of those may have an average entree price of over $20.

These above two are multiple winners with our groups when we go to the Cadillac or to the Oriental (Ford Theater of the Performing Arts).

Oh yes, for these two- make reservations.

I just did a search here and there are other choices, but do one and you can see what I found.

312 in the Hotel Allegro (connected to Cadillac/Palace).

But in reading, I note that other posters agree with me, that Trattoria #10 has more atmosphere (elegant, quiet) and is generally better than those two above. Of course, it is all subjective.

If you don't mind walking 4-5 blocks, both Fulton's on the River and Flatwater Grill have seating along the river (below street level). Depending upon the heat index (which is predicted to be high this weekend), the seating outside has nice river views. Both have pretty good food (particularly fish dishes at Fulton's) with most entrees under $20.

We'll be with a friend who is a fussier eater than we are (no fish, no Japanese, etc) and is on a more limited budget.

Atwood Cafe: only two entrees under $20
Flatwater Grill: their website didn't let me get to a menu
Fultons: only fish
Italian Village: I already had a reservation at their Cantina; their other two restaurants are full
Petterinos: I could get a reservation at 3:30 or 7:45
Trattoria 10: only two entress under $20
312: only one entree under $20

Its hard to get an entree in Chicago for less than that. Its just expensive here.

Flatwater Grill is brand new and still ironing out the kinks.

Trattoria #10 is great and you can walk to the theater easily.

If you like Indian, there is Klay Oven on Orleans Street on the opposite side of the river. About 15 minutes walk.

312 is consistently good but expensive

Petterinos is loud and the food is average.

I am now lukewarm on Atwood as the last time there I had terrible service and the food was mediocre.

Soooo, long story short, I think that Trattoria #10 is the place for you!

Take a look at Lloyd's at Madison and Wacker.www.lloydschicago.com Not the most adventurous menu, but it might suit your group.

Selecting a restaurant is a little bit of a challenge because my husband and I would spend more and we like more different kinds of foods, but I am trying to be very respectful of our friend's budget and food preferences.

Because Trattoria 10 only has 2 entrees under $20, we decided not to go there. We did look at Lloyd's menu, but she preferred La Cantina at Italian Village.

I've been for luncheon with friends about 5 times in 8 years and for the same exact reason, and it's not very representative of Chicago's food, nor of quality in general. That's really not moderate in downtown Chicago, but much toward the lower end scale of pricing.

You'll do fine, but don't judge Chicago's food choices or quality overall for future possible visits upon La Cantina.

How about walking to Michigan Blvd and over to the cafe at Millineum Park. The outside area is usually (well, if it's not raining or 98 degrees) pleasant and I didn't think it was too expensive.

Golden Budha is 1 block west of the Cadillac Theatre on Randolph.
