Restaurant in a tree?
 

Is there a place like this in either New Braunfels or Gruene? Thanks!

Don't know of any in a tree off hand but there is one place in Gruene perched high above the river that has the outdoor deck built high off the ground around several trees.

Can't think of the name right now but will re-post if it comes to mind.

Might be there next Mon (if I can get the family to agree to go toobing in mid April).

If you repost this message with Gruene/NB Texas in the title you might catch the eye of local folks like SAgirl or one of the many Austinites.

I was about to suggest that you repost on the Europe board. One really has to be a mindreader or a major geography expert around here to figure out where people are talking about since so many hate to mention states or places. Sounded like Germany or the Netherlands to me.

Zaneyjaney - I don't know of any restaurants in trees in that area. Kind of a cool concept though.

Thanks for the info! How cold would it be to tube?. We'll be there the 15th.

IMHO, it will be cold as sh** !!! I tubed at the beginning of May once, and froze even tho some of my friends managed to get sunburnt.

The Guadalupe river is fed from the bottom of the dam so the water is cool even in summer. The key is air temperature. If it's 90+, then mid April will be ok and the water will feel nice. If it is low 80s then the water will feel cold.

I talked to the guys at Gruene River Co yesterday and they said flow was ~120cfm, which is fine for a gentle float for 2hrs. It's been dry so they are not releasing any excess water from the dam. They didn't know the water temp but said it was chilly.

If you are there on 4/15 I recommend you feel the water before committing to a float. If I make it thru there next week I'll post back here w/ trip report.

yes, I am referring to the Grist Mill, but my memory is a little fuzzy on the details so I can't say for sure about he tree-house thing.

Group I was with got a little head start on supplying anti-freeze into the blood stream pre-float and it was a few years ago. :)

Restaurant is definitely Gristmill in Gruene. Entire deck is is in the trees. Checked it out earlier this week when I was there.

Guadalupe thru Gruene was a bit cold for toobing - air temp was mid 80s. We rented a raft instead. By tomorrow the air temp is expected to hit high 90s but I still think the water temp will be too cold for 1-2hr float.

Some people we met suggested that the Comal river (near Schlitterbahn) is actually warmer and better suited to toobing.
