Restaurant Ideas in Lafayette, Louisiana

I would appreciate any restaurant suggestions in Lafayette. We're driving over late this afternoon from Baton Rouge for the Tim McGraw/Faith Hill concert at the Cajundome. We've enjoyed Charlie G's in the past but haven't been there in several years. Many thanks for your suggestions as usual!!

I just got a great review from a friend who ate at Cafe Des Amis in Breaux Bridge last week. I think we'll give it a try. Many thanks for the other suggestions.

I was going to suggest Cafe des Amis. We had dinner there last month and it was really good. I had the roast duck, which was very very tasty - and the bread pudding with white chocolate sauce for dessert. Mmmm mmm mmm. It was so good. My husband had some sort of shrimp dish that was excellent too.

I'm weighing in too late, but have to add a post for any who might find this thread later.

You've GOT to go the Cafe des Amis. It has consistently received Zagat's highest rating, and besides that, the food is excellent! ;-)

Reservations HIGHLY recommended.

Our favorites include the crawfish cornbread and the duck. I don't think you'll be disappointed regardless of what you try.

Also, check their website

zydeco on Sat morning and Wednesday evenings. Have fun, cher!

PS
DownSouth, how was it?

We went on a Friday night for dinner and I really really wanted to go back the next morning for the Zydeco breakfast, but we had a plane to catch in New Orleans and had to get on the road. As we were driving, we saw signs for the Lafayette and Baton Rouge airports. My husband kept commenting that if I had booked flights out of either of those airports, we would currently be sitting in Cafe des Amis rather than in the car schlepping all the way back to New Orleans - LOL. I told him that he was free to make travel reservations next time if he didn't like what I came up with, but in my head I was thinking - damn, what was I thinking booking our flight out of New Orleans? We could be having that breakfast right now - LOL.

J, great idea! Since Katrina, BR has become an even busier airport, and you could probably get some of the same (or better) deals as flying into/out of NO. I'm not sure how cost effective Lafayette flights would be though, but it'd definitely be worth checking into.

Yeah - next time I am in that area, I will definitely check the other airports. And actually, just a general lesson for future travel - look at alternate airports - LOL. If we had been on a non-stop flight from New Orleans to San Jose, then I think a little extra drive to get to the airport may have been worth it, but we had to change planes in Dallas anyway.
