Try something not in the tourist books.... Wasabi on Frenchmen St if you like Japanese..... The Alpine on Chartres near the Cathedral...... Quarter Scene on Dumaine/Dauphine for lunch...... Flanagan's Pub on St Philip..... Angeli for good late-night...... Fiorella's Cafe for incredible fried chicken..... The Rib Room on Royal for steaks & chops...... Old Dog New Trick for vegetarian...... Marigny Brasserie...... Belle Forche..... Pelican Club...... Louis VXI..... Veranda for Sunday Brunch (inside Hotel Inter*Continental)...... LaPeniche also good for late-night...... Rita's on Chartres/St Philip for good casual creole..... CC's Coffeehouse on Royal/St Philip for light breakfast...... same at The Sweet Car (also inside Hotel Inter*Continental)..... Mother's for the best po'boys..... Central Grocery for the best muffeletta..... Frank's on Decatur for decent Italian..... Mona Lisa on Royal...... Port Of Call on Esplanade for the best burgers...... Cafe Siam on Esplanade for Thai (but slow service)...... Buffa's Lounge on Esplanade/Dauphine..... Yo Mama's on St Peter for a good burger platter..... Royal Cafe..... I could go on and on and on!!!

*MINA*
New Orleans, LA

Bons,
Just returned today from a week in
NO. Had the best meal at Brigsten's,
a close second at both Stella and
Lillette (on Magazine). Would not
recommend The Bistro at Maison de
ville. Mr B's has never failed us in our 17 years of visiting. Hope this helps.

Please! Don't anyone mention Jacques-Imos. It's too tuff to get into as it is!

Ahhh Mona Lisa's. I can still taste the garlic!

And try a few Monsoons while at the mentioned Port o' Call. Puts a Hurricane to shame! People laff at us when we say we went to NOLA and got a cheeseburger. Those are no laffin' matter!
Damn! I'm ready to go back to NOLA now, too!
Life is too short to waste at work!
Let da guuuud times rollll!
Kal

I can vouch for GW Fins and Mr. B's Bistro. I just happened in to Alpine for lunch a year and a half ago because I needed to use the restroom. It turned out to be a nice experience.
|
To clarify: EATING at Alpine was a nice experience. I can't remember the restroom.

The original poster is asking for nice meals so it's not terribly helpful to suggest downscale (and sometimes downright awful) "local" places like Alpine. Bons, I would choose GW Fins, Peristyle and Stella of the group you mentioned but all are acceptable. Galatoire's is very "old money" while the rest are a little "nouveau" comparatively.
