Restaurant for Group Dinner in Honolulu?
We're traveling to Honolulu for a conference and need to find a nice restaurant, preferably Hawaiian cuisine, not too touristy, for about 20-25 people for dinner. Needs to be in the Honolulu vicinity. This trip will be most people's first one to Hawaii. Any suggestions? Thanks.

20-25 people is a slightly large party for most restaurants in Honolulu. For a group that size, it might be worth it to arrange for a dinner party at a resort where you could have a private room, or perhaps a dinner party on the lawn. Good hotels for small dinner parties are: Halekulani and Kahala Mandarin Oriental. As for restaurants, some of my favorites are: Roy's, Alan Wong's, and Sam Choy's.
A local favorite that can accomodate large parties is the Willow's Restaurant on Hausten street. They have a buffet menu and ala carte dining as well. Casual atmosphere, decent Hawaiian food, and very reasonable.
By the way, what is your budget per person? This will help fellow posters give you better advice.
Best wishes,
Kehau

Thanks for the reply. We may have a smaller group, so I will definitely check out your suggestions! I'm not sure how much will be allocated for this dinner, yet; What should I be looking at for a restaurant like Alan Wong's or Sam Choy's?

Well, I'm not sure I wouldn't categorize Sam Choy's as "not too touristy", though it is probably much less touristy than, say, Bubba Gump's. The food is definitely Hawaiian and not expensive and huge portions and delicious! We always make a stop at Sam Choy's. It's a fun place and they would not have a problem accomodating a large group. Alan Wong's is pricey and upscale. I vote for Sam Choy's, particularly the location on Nimitz.

Depends on which Sam Choy's you're talking about. Sam Choy's on Kapahulu is not touristy at all - it's elegant but not stuffy and the food is definitely very Hawaiian (as compared to Roy's which is more Pac Rim or 'fusion'). The Nimitz location is much more touristy and 'themed', although I still love the food and it's a fun place.
