Going hunting and want great steak, chicken fried steak restaurant between Dallas and Amarillo!
|
How about Grandy's for chicken fried steak?
http://www.grandys.com/locations.asp...state&state=TX |
Texas Roadhouse in Wichita Falls. About half the distance between Dallas and Amarillo.
It's a chain but I had some pretty good steaks in their restaurants. Never tried their fried chicken. We have one here in Sarasota area and when we don't feel like going to an upscale steakhouse we drive there. The atmosphere is fun, the prices are reasonable and the steaks are pretty good. |
If you have a big appetite try the 72 oz Steak Challenge (free if you can it it and all the trimmings in one hour) at the Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo (www.bigtexan.com).
|
Big Texan also does Chicken Fried Steak
|
The San Angelo Standard-Times and San Antonio Express-News mention Parkway Grill (2719 Southwest Parkway) in Wichita Falls.

Not Grandy's - it's an Applebee's level chain. It's predictable, but you'll not hear anyone rave.
|
Right. Too pedestrian for a hunting trip, eh?
They are known for their chicken fried steak hence the suggestion. Maybe BigRuss is a fancier hunter than most. :-) |
Grandy's must be moving up in the world. I remember it more as between KFC and Boston Market.
|
Don't waste your time with Grandy's.
|
Thinking that Grandy's "known for [its] chicken fried steak" is a rough equivalent to Dickey's is "known for its barbecue."
To the OP: check this link and then try to determine which, if any, are (i) still in business, (ii) en route from Dallas to Amarillo. http://www.texasmonthly.com/story/40...all-town-cafes |
Cranachin's link has options in Wichita Falls, Fort Worth and Amarillo.
