RESORTS for single travelers?
Single mid age woman traveling alone, and would like to find a great resort that would feel "safe" and "comfortable" at that offers fun daytime activities and places nearby to explore. Enjoy walking, bike riding, swimming, good food. Suggestions appreciated.. Thanks....

Is that what ClubMed sells?
|
Yes, but looking for something maybe less "singles" and maybe with more of a mix of families too so you kind of blend in more, less obvious that your single (smile).

Club Med might not be a bad suggestion, except if it's the US that you're limited to. (We were extremely pleased with our stay at the Club Med in Ixtapa this past April. We had so much fun we're going again in a few weeks. The staff was really great and very friendly. Part of their job is to join people for meals or cocktails. You certainly would never be eating dinner by yourself, unless you decided you wanted to. While my kids were off my wife and I would often be joined for a meal by one of the GOs. Almost all were from outside the US which made it interesting to hear about different cultures. Just make sure you pick the right Club Med. The one in Ixtapa is really geared towards families and tends to have far fewer people that are not there without kids. There are others that are far more adult oriented and limit kids to 18 and over. I'm not sure all Club Med's are as nice as the one in Ixtapa in terms of the quality of the resort and the food. But, I know many have recently been refurbished. |
Gail,
Didn't see your second comment. Perhaps then the one in Ixtapa is worth looking into. Almost every kid is off doing activities during the day which means the main pool can actually be a fairly nice spot for just adults. Trip Advisor has some really great comments. Almost all the recent reviews are simply glowing. (including mine.) |
Hi GaiLK!
There are a couple of places in PA that would work for you (great food, outdoor activities, though not sure about nearby areas to explore): http://www.nemacolin.com/ http://thelodgeatwoodloch.reachlocal.net/Welcome14.html :) |
Thanks all for your replys. Resort doesn't have to be in the U.S. /or the Caribbean. I will definitely check out all your suggestions..
Thanks! |
I enjoyed a solo trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico staying at the Marriott Casa Magna.

I travel solo often, but I just do it independently and plan my own trip. I don't feel the need for a special resort, I just stay at normal hotels. I've spent quite a bit of time in both Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and in Waikiki on Oahu. They both offer all the things you seek. I always feel safe and comfortable those two places.

I had a friend who went on some sort of bicycling women-only tour and LOVED it. It was a small group, and she was doing something that she felt she wasn't safe doing alone. (She subsequently went with them on a canoe/camping thing.)
Maybe google "women adventure tours" or something if it might interest you. (I know you said resort, but this was all I could think of.) |
Try specialist holiday companies who do walking holidays, or cycling painting, cookery etc. There are some really good ones that do European destinations. Or you could consider a cruise. Although if it was me I would go the whole hog and do an adult gap year, my friend did this last year and said it was amazing. Try the website Gap Year for Adults.

Look at guest/dude ranches. There are some in every price range -- I was a young widow with a young daughter...always felt welcome at several different locations. Lots of fun...you don't need riding experience. Look at Tumbling River in Colorado or Mountain Sky in Montana..these are on the high end but I am sure there are more affordable places. Arizona has many for the spring/fall season.

I have recently looked into hiking or biking alone and have found two: Countrywalkers.com and Adventuresingoodcompany.com. Their brochures look very nice.

Thanks for all your responses!!
I should NOW be able to come up with something fun to do solo.. |
Are you interested in a place like Canyon Ranch? Lots of singles there.. Pricey but really lovely. (I've been only to the Berkshires, not to Tucson)
