Resorts for Families (the one I want is booked solid)

I thought I had found the perfect resort in Key West. Sunset Key Cottages.

I am driving myself crazy looking for places in Florida. I want beautiful water, sand. Family friendly. I just don't know the keys that well.

Any suggestions?

When are you going?
Does it have to be the Keys?
Must it be a resort?
Ages of people going?

My 1st thought was also "when are you going?" Could it be they aren't taking reservations yet so it appears nothing's available? Have you called or only tried online? Maybe you should call if you haven't.

Good questions above.

"I want beautiful water, sand. Family friendly. I just don't know the keys that well."

The keys aren't known for beaches. Sandy beaches are few and far between. Resorts can have manmade beaches and there's a gorgeous public beach mid keys. Just wondering what your expections are. There are plenty of places with gorgeous sugar sand beaches (the panhandle), wide beaches (Atlantic coast) and long beaches like St. Pete (west coast of FL) - but the beaches in the keys are very different.

You probably already know that, but just in case it's helpful. I know a very family friendly, very low key place in the keys with a tiny man made beach on the bay (with manatees coming up hoping for a drink of water from the hose whenever someone is hosing down a boat at the dock - not supposed to do it), but it's not fancy at all.

We need a better idea of what "resort" means to you.

Does it have to be Florida?
How about St Croix, a US Virgin Island? Our family loved The Buccaneer. Perfect for a family get-away. Easy to reach from Florida.
