Resorts

My husband and I would like to take our 2 school aged children to a resort area in Florida (NOT Disney) next summer. Does anyone have any recommendations for places to stay for a week. We are interested in resorts which have activities for adults and children esp. outdoor activities, pools, near clean beach and shopping and nice restaurants. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help!

Cheeca Lodge also in the Keys is a great place.

How about Sandestin in Destin? Destin itself is obscenely crowded now, but once inside the Sandestin property, things are very spread out and pleasant. They used to have children's programs; I assume they still do. They also have lots of different types of accommodations from rooms to condos, so it's very convenient for families. You might check out their website.

Florida is a big place. Checa Lodge in the central keys is run down and not so great. I prefer South Seas Plantation in Captiva (Island adjoining Sanabel off Ft. Meyers)There are hotel rooms and condos 1-2-3- bedroom for rent

Hawk's Cay is definitely your answer. Get a room with a poolside terrace. The dolphin program is great. The food is delicious.
