Resort vacation near or in San Diego?

What is the best the area has to offer-lucury, pampering, sitting by beach and pool- within hour of city area?

No beach at either the Four Seasons Aviara or Rancho Valencia, but they're the top two IMO.

How is the Coronado? We usually like 4 seasons/ ritz carlton typr places.

Leows Coronado is supposed to be pretty nice. And you always have the Del Coronado. Not sure how luxe that is. Both are four star hotel/resort types. Then you have La Costa, but that is also not on the beach. The Four Seasons Aviara is the new kid on the block and supposed to be very nice. Haven't seen it. Coronado would be the best for the beach time, IMO.

The Hotel Del Coronado would be the best "beach" hotel.
The newest 5 star hotel in the San Diego area is the Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla. It looks wonderful.

I love the Hotel Del Coronado.

Another vote for the Hotel del Coronado. We have stayed there many times and have always been pleased. They have a wonderful Sunday brunch as well!

The Victorian Beach view rooms @ Hotel del Coronado, but the La Valencia in La Jolla may be better!

Well, that said, I finally got two seats on DAL for their W/E getaway fare of $148. RT.
We are staying Sat @ The US Grant downtown, Sun and Mon @ The Shelter Pointe Hot/Marina.
