Resort Spas in New Mexico
I am going to treat my wife to a week at a resort spa most likely in New Mexico. I have interest in the Hyatt Tamaya outside Albuquerque, Bishops lodge near Santa Fe and El Monte in Taos. Any thoughts on any of these would be appreciated. I am open to other places as well.

Ten Thousand Waves just outside of Santa Fe's historic area is an option, although it is very different in vibe and price from Bishop's Lodge.

I'm not sure that anything near Albuquerque could match Santa Fe or Taos regarding the environment and surroundings...

I have stayed at the Bishop's Lodge in Santa Fe. Let me first say that Santa Fe, in my opinion, is WAY nicer than Albuquerque, so any spa located there would be preferable. Also, Taos is interesting and scenic but does not offer as much to do as Santa Fe (which is scenic and provides more choices for activities, galleries, restaurants, etc). So if any of those things matter to you, take them into consideration when choosing. As for the Bishop's Lodge, the grounds are quite nice and the rooms are very comfortable. But it is not a cheap place to stay, and depending on what room you get, you may be disappointed in your view (or lack of one) for the price.

Santa Fe has a few to offer that I would recommend.
Ten Thousand Waves. Very serene Japanese spa with lodging. HIGHLY recommend the spa treatments. You are located about 15 from the plaza area on the mountain and secluded. www.tenthousandwaves.com La Posada Spa. Nice environment with full-service spa. Restaurants and bar are very nice as are the rooms. www.laposada.rockresorts.com While Bishop's Lodge has a spa I cannot recommend the lodging any more. Went for many years and the last several stays have been awful as they cater to business retreats over the individual traveler. I do recommend the Sunday brunch and the outdoor terrace for a cocktail by the big fireplace. Haven't been to Hyatt Tamaya yet but put in the search box as Reisender recently visited and could help with it. If you are open for another location I highly recommend Mi Amo Spa at Enchantment Resort. It is located in Boynton Canyon in Sedona, AZ. A top-notch spa with beautiful rooms, pool, and lounging areas. And the scenery around you is breathtaking. www.enchantmentresort.com I am a lover of New Mexico but my first choice for a spa week would be Enchantment Resort's Mi Amo Spa in Sedona. |
