Resort Hotels near DC
 

I know about the Omni Homestead and the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay. What other resort hotels are located within a 2-to-3 hour drive of DC (and recommended for a 3-day trip for 5 adults and one baby)?

A few years ago we were refered to the renowned "The Inn at Little Washington", (in the small, country town of Washington, Va. southwest of DC). We were very impressed and we got a middle of the week healthy discount, in the late fall. Have since referred family and friends to it, all of whom loved it.

It's on a connector road leading to Interstate 66 which takes you east, smack into DC..around an hour, maybe less or a little more.

The Inn at Little Washington is fabulous, but I don't think its particualry kid friendly. The area has lots of little places to explore. Take lots of $$ if you choose it...

In St. Michaels, you could look at the Inn at Perry Cabin. St. Michaels is a cute little town.

What time of year are you going? Not a resort but you could always go up to Lewes, DE or Rehoboth Beach if your trip is during nice weather. Typical beach towns with beach type activities. Particuarlly nice in the Springtime.

July? I'd be up on top of the mountain at Wintergreen. It might even be cool enough for sweaters at night.

I like Birdie's suggestions too. I'll add Keswick Hall, near Charlottesville, to the list.

The Inn at Perry Cabin is lovely and very traditional. The town is pretty, if touristy, and there are other towns of interest nearby. If you are interested in food, I would try to visit the area during crab season. We stayed there last year on the drive north to NYC from Florida but were too early for crabs. Rooms vary since it is an older building.

Sorry, did not see that your visit will be in July. Should be good for crabs. Plenty of places to eat in the area if you do not want to eat at Perry Cabin.

Birdie's list is a good one.

The Greenbrier is one of the most prominent, famous resort hotels in the US. It's a four-hour drive from DC, though.

But I think Rehoboth Beach would be a good destination for you. Its close to DC and a popular family destination. Look at the Bellmoor.

Birdie's suggestion of Wintergreen is spot on. We have a number of friends who have bought summer homes there because it is so nice in the summer and they prefer it to the beach scene.

The Inn at Little Washington is definitely not family friendly.
