Residence Inn Milwaukee-Glendale

Is this place any good? What's the Glendale area like? Easy access to downtown? How far to Miller Park? Any beach access opportunities anyone can share?

I haven't been inside, but I live about 5 minutes away. Glendale is one of the North Shore suburbs, a very nice area.

The Residence Inn is on Port Washington Rd, right off the Good Hope exit of the I-43 expressway, which runs north from DT. Without traffic, it's about a 15 minute drive to DT. Miller Park is about 10 minutes west of DT. With traffic, it could be double that.

The closest park with beach access is Doctors' Park, which is about a mile east of Port Washington Rd, on Dean Rd, which is 8400 North, 12 blocks north of Good Hope.

Thanks, abram. That's exactly what I was looking for. We'll be in Milwaukee for a game and a wedding, and then head up to Door County for a few days. Friends have also had good things to say about the Glendale area and say that Milwaukee is really easy to get around. They tell me that the city is really cleaned up lately, the Wareouse District is fun, and don't miss the surprisingly good Indonesian food.

I'm planning a visit to the Milwaukee Art Museum and need a place to stay. Any suggestions for that area? Also, any other must see items in that area?

I'm glad the information was helpful.

I don't know what you mean by the Wareouse District--I can't think of any area with a name like that. Although I didn't grow up here, we've lived here for 32 years, and I don't know what your friends mean when they say that "the city is really cleaned up lately".

The only restaurant I knew of serving Indonesian food was Peking Palace, very near the Residence Inn--but it closed in January.

In general, Milwaukee is easy to get around because it's streets are designed in a grid, and it's not a tremendously large city. Right now, construction makes getting in and out of DT (where I work) a little challenging, and the major street in front of the Residence Inn only runs southbound.

The Park East Hotel is the closest hotel to the Milwaukee Art Museum. www.parkeasthotel.com

The Third Ward is a good place to walk, and poke into shops, art galleries, and restaurants. If the weather is nice, walking along the lakefront or renting a paddleboat at the lagoon is fun.

To get a feel for Milwaukee products, you can tour Miller Brewery or Harley-Davidson.

Depending on when you're here, there's a festival at the lakefront almost every weekend in the summer.

Thanks for the hotel suggestion and touring Harley-Davidson. I would have never thought of that and we'll love going there. Thanks so much!

Marina,Beach, and Parks are just north of Museum, Alterra Coffe shop also just north of Museum is a great place to hang out and people watch. North Ave is just above ( up the hill ) from Alterra, restaurants and shops (Beans and Barley a great East side Restaurant, located on North Ave.
Try the Knickerbocker Hotel or the Astor Hotel.
Warehouse dist.is most likely the 3rd Ward.

You might want to check out hotwire.com to get a good rate on a nice hotel downtown. I'm assuming you'll have a car, so anywhere you stay is easily within driving distance. Parking in downtown isn't that difficult. By warehouse district I think you're talking about the 3rd ward - it has changed a lot in the past few years - good restaurants, trendy places, etc. Be sure to check out the Lakefront (Lincoln Memorial Drive) by the art museum - lots of fun stuff to do down there - walk around, rent a paddleboat or bike, etc. Have fun!!
